Well, the one who asks "who the heck is that?" is the younger sister of the girl with the pink eyes, but yeah, I'm lost, I'm not sure if he means she's the little girl of if the artist will introduce a third character, he introduced the mother of the girls only a little time ago.

Awesome. Have been kind of busy with classwork today but I'm almost done with the first file. I just went with the one that the scene I translated a bit of earlier comes from, which ended up being one of the bigger ones. Going to try and do a file or two a day when time allows. At that rate we'll be done in...well like two months, seeing as how there's about eighty-something files. But that's pretty good for such a text-heavy game.

Also, just to double-check, but .utf files contain the scripts for each scene, and .ke files contain the commands controlling message windows, sound effects, image display etc..., right? So I should just leave the .ke ones alone? Or is there text in some of them too?

No rush. I wouldn't be especially surprised if this fails epically. As things have a tendency to do.
But just the same.
Also, two months is surprisingly fast.

You are correct. The .ke is the engine's formatting files while the UTF is mostly just the game script with some minor script stuff and the line counters used by the .ke. Just the UTF files need translating, since the only J info in the .ke files seem to be code.

The level of text isn't all that high compared to the novels I read in Japanese, but it's far higher than anything I've ever actually sat down and tried to translate before. It's quite fun~

No worries. I was just pointing out that there's no obligation to see things through to the end. And I know a bit about the whole process and I figure it's worthwhile to attempt doing something with said knowledge.

Plus not only do I get to look at a lot of japanese and lines upon lines of code, but I get to look at code IN JAPANESE.

Of course I have to move out in third year anyway unless I intend to commute to classes in Japan. And once I graduate...god knows. Might have to move to the US or Japan to find translation work. Until then, though, I want to stay at home as much as possible. I'd like to hope it's for mostly charitable reasons and not because I'm a total man-child, but I guess we'll find out when the time comes.

I know Elin said he was leaving, but the solution to all his problems is obviously to move to the US, near Milady! I only live a short distance from the capital, surely you could find some translation work there. Even if it's not official, cool government work. Just stand in the middle of the "mall" where all the museums and such are and look for the huge groups of Asian tourists.

And if you ever miss the UK, you can rant with my boyfriend about how Americans are stupid and such.
