Eh, is hype a deciding factor for some people? Sure it is. Society is full of people who buy into shit because the people they're trying to impress bought into it first. It's how society has worked forever, and you all should know that. Unless you weren't paying attention at any point in your existence, in which case you've probably got such an idealistic world-view that you don't even know what the word hype or the term peer-pressure even mean, you sad fuckers.
So yeah, I'm not saying hype isn't a factor here. Simple everyday understanding will tell you that there's a pretty good chance that at least a handful of people are going to buy this game because they want to impress upon someone that they too are part of the in-crowd.
It's not an issue specific to Nintendo, a fact to which similar discussions surrounding the releases of hugely anticipated 360 and PS3 games aptly attest, but more importantly the matter of hype is dragged out so frequently, largely as a means to help self-absorbed jackasses work out how or why someone might be driven to like something they don't. So let's wake up, smell the coffee, and stop being such colossal fucking shit-nuggets about this already, shall we?
Sometimes people just like what they like. I know it's a touch concept to grasp, being that so many of you sad fuckers seems to operate on the idea that he or she is the center of the known inverse, but it's really sometimes that simple, and doesn't mean a fucking thing more than that. I know, it's crazy, eh? Yet it's so true too.
Really, I'd love to think that Destructoid members on the whole would be above such petty nonsense such as all that, being that the site is full of intelligent people. However, the only comprehensible difference between the D-Toid community and that of say GameFAQs is that people are using bigger words to say the same stupid shit. Whatever happened to STFUAJPG? Fallen by the wayside in favor of the same old douche-baggery and fan-boy bullshit.
DToid, where a higher class of asshole resides.![]()
