I can't neg rep you because I apparently I need to spread some rep around more, so instead I'll just quote you and call you a jackass.
Jackass.
Also, I, in that situation, probably would've been far more deserving of his rant than the skateboarder once he started talking like that. Luckily for me, most of the cops I've known and dealt with have been alright, I respect cops in general, but people acting like that pisses me off faster than anything. As soon as the cop grabbed the kid and wrestled him down to take the skateboard, I felt like punching someone.
That kid'll soon be rich enough to buy 100 skateboards once the lawsuit goes down, of course. This guy's fucked.
The kids shouldn't of been skateboarding where they shouldn't have been, and he shouldn't have made comments like the "I have no father" thing, but christ almighty. It's no goddamn excuse for how that guy acted.
As I was walking down the stair,
I met a man who wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today.
I wish, I wish he'd go away.
Okay I'm going to:
Delete that post.
Apologize
and never come back to this thread again.

Didn't expect him to get fired, but to be suspended with pay?
Mmmm, me no likey.![]()
Isn't that pretty standard though?
Seems odd to take away someone's wage before finding him guilty, so to speak.
Michael Ballack, he scores free-kicks.
He's got black hair, and he's german.
Michael Ballack, trains in paddocks.

You're right, though I can't imagine what kind of "investigation" is required that's long enough for them to bother acting and suspending him before just handing down the pink slip. When he grabbed the kid and took him down, even though the kid was doing nothing but talking to him, I think it's pretty clear he broke some fucking rules.
With something like that, I'd kinda expect them to be able to judge fast enough that suspending him first wouldn't be necessary, they can fire him on the spot.
Turn in your gun and badge, Officer Rivieri. You're a loose cannon, you don't know how to do it by the book. You're off the case.![]()

Any investigation like this needs to be done properly. Everything by the book and all that. Why? morale and legalities. They do not want the grunts to get it into their head that a single fuckup could get them screwed over without a fair trial. They also don't want the lawsuit factor they'd get if they turfed a guy and later found out that the situation wasn't quite what they assumed.
But for something like this, the odds of the cop actually being fired are somewhere around nil. He'll probably be given some time off (with or without pay) and told to attend a few training sessions.
Being a "punk ass biotch" does not make you a second class citizen. You do not lose your rights for being a kid, or for being a skateboarder. The cop asked if he heard them, the kid replied that he did not. They didn't continue to skateboard, they didn't try to run, and they didn't threaten the officer, nor did they use any language unacceptable for public broadcast or anything racially/sexually offensive. The situation is well in hand, there is 40 seconds of video showing that. No need to lay a finger on anyone.
That's part of the job. Nobody says when you are the customer service guy at Best Buy you don't have a 50 year old woman yell at you because the desktop she didn't plug in won't turn on. If they're being that asinine, then prosecute them to the fullest extent of your power, but not beyond. Fine them, confiscate their board, whatever. Hands off though... we don't need the police propagating the violence.
Of course, the officer is entitled to his due process as well.

It's got some replies from his attorney there that are pretty outlandish. I wrote to the mayor last week (as I'm a city resident) and haven't heard back yet. I'm primarily appalled by the end... he asks if the camera is on. If he's properly performing his public service in a public place (which they can't stop him from filming), then he's happy to have video shown. It shows he knows he was doing something wrong, something that would not be taken kindly to by the general populace and those above him, and that makes it all the worse for me. I couldn't possibly make a case for him unknowingly doing something wrong.
All I can say is that my life is pretty plain
I like watchin the puddles gather rain
And all I can do is just pour some tea for two
and speak my point of view
But its not sane..
I just want some one to say to me
Ill always be there when you wake
Ya know Id like to keep my cheeks dry today
So stay with me and Ill have it made
And I dont understand why I sleep all day
And I start to complain that theres no rain
And all I can do is read a book to stay awake
And it rips my life away but its a great escape..
All I can say is that my life is pretty plain...
