You'd never know for sure which areas they are, if the person even has any, until you tripped across them in conversation.

Oh certainly. I'm not saying you can just look at someone and know right off the bat whether they're smart or not. But after spending some time with someone, I think their strengths and weaknesses start to become apparent if you simply watch the way that they carry themselves in various situations. I don't know. To me personally, IQ tests are worthless. I'd rather just trust my own instincts and intuitions.
