So I've decided that I'll probably get a Wii mod-chip since my bro can solder pretty well, and I have a few questions I'd like to ask you all.

    1. What is the best Wii chip on the market?

    2. What is the easiest chip to install?

    3. What procedures would I have to follow post-install in order to ensure that I don't end up with a bricked system?

    4. What site is the best place from which to purchase a Wii chiip?

    5. What sites would I want to bookmark in order to ensure that I'm up to date with firmware, as well as all the news and info I might need, along the lines of those PSP-centric sites and whatnot?

So nobody here has a Wii chip?

While I could get the information I'm looking for nearly anywhere, I was hoping to get some feedback from people who I could trust. Any takers?

Since no one is responding, I hear wii-key is pretty good. You also might be interested in this.

I have the WiiKey, and I must say that this would be the chip I recommend for the Wii. I've had it in there since I bought my console at launch. And I have had no problems with it what-so-ever. But as of right now, it will not boot DVD-DL. But the guys that made it will be releasing an update for it when the USA version of Smash Bros. Brawl comes out.

Go with this one Cyber, it's the best in my opinion.

edit:// This is where I got mine at. WiiKey

edit-edit:// This is the only place that I can find anything remotely close to the updates.WiiKey Updates?

So from what I can gather, that adapter thing requires no soldering for the most Wii chips. You just plug it into the adapter and then plug the adapter into the motherboard, and you're good to go. If that's the case, then I think you two have helped me make my decision.

Thanks guys. This is much appreciated.

EDIT: Looks like the Wiikey requires soldering, but it's alright. I have someone handy who can solder.

EDIT II: I've heard rumors of systems being bricked when a game disk tries to update your system and it's been chipped. Is this true?

Good to know that I helped someone...finally . And as far as systems getting bricked, let me ask my brother about that. He's been following up on this a little more than I have. But from what I remember it can happen. But I just recently updated my Firmware to play the Jap version of Brawl. And evverything still works fine. But i'll ask him just in case.

edit:// Just spoke to him about this. And he has said to never let a game that you download or buy update your system for you. You must do this manually through the internet. And if you follow this, then you'll never have a problem. So keep checking the net for Wii updates and do it yourself.

Is there a way to keep it from updating your system? I don't recall if either of the games I got that required updates actually gave me a choice. That said, I suppose it's easy enough to check before I load a game up.

    Thanks for the info.
