    For NES, try these:
    http://nestopia.sourceforge.net/
    http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/nes/fceultra.html
    http://virtuanes.s1.xrea.com:8080/vnes_dl.php

    For SNES:
    http://snes9x.ipherswipsite.com/

Both ZSNES & SNES9x are great choices (click the "W" under both to download)

    For Sega:
    http://www.eidolons-inn.net/tiki-index.php?page=kega

    For Atari 5200:
    http://jum.pdroms.de/emulators/emu5200.html
    http://home.cfl.rr.com/jberlin/kat5200/
    http://www.math.tu-berlin.de/~thor/atari++/
    http://atari800.sourceforge.net/index.html

For all these emulators, you want to download the Windows binaries (bin) not the sources (src).
If you get the sources, you'll have to compile them yourself.

Also can't say if they'll work with Vista as I don't have it.

You could try running them in different compatibility modes: WinXP, Win98, etc.
Right-click on the shortcut or the .exe file > Properties > Compatibility.

And maybe disable Visual themes, and Desktop composition too:
    http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...tibility-mode/

You might also have to enable administrator rights:
Right-click on the shortcut and select "Run as" to run as Administrator.

    And...I think that's everything.
If you still need further help, just ask.

    You mean netplay?

Kega Fusion has that too, though the author says in the readme that because he can't find anyone online, it's untested.

He also says that Kega Fusion, "Emulates the Sega SG-1000, SC-3000, Master System, and GameGear with a high degree of accuracy."

And, "Emulates the Sega MegaDrive/Genesis more accurately than any other
    emulator."

So, although Gens is a great emulator too, I recommend Kega Fusion over it because it's a little better.

Btw, here's the most recent version, Gens 2.14:
    http://gens.consolemul.com/downloads.shtml

There's also Gens Plus! and Gens32 which are based on Gens:

You don't need to make a new thread, just reply to this one.

    --THREADS MERGED.

As for your question, try each emulator to see if it works as-is.
Don't forget to try each one with different compatibility modes (WinXP, Win98, etc.) if they don't work with Vista's mode.

Also read the readme text files that come with each emulator to learn how to use them.
Don't expect to just download, install if necessary, and start playing roms right away, especially if you're new to all this.

If none of them work, then come back and ask for more help.

But you can't expect us to do all the work for you, especially when most of us can't because most of us don't have Vista.

ok here's the low down I have read all the tips on the homepage.what I do not understand is what I need and do not need for example I do not understand what the glide does or most other things do in that list.I do not need you guys to tell me eveything about how to make them run, what I need help with is what programs I need to install and what they do for me I have no idea what a dll is or does or where to put the roms and if I need to make a folder to play them from and if they are zipped files will I need to unzip them or will the other programs take care of that.are there any walk throughts that put it in simple terms that explain how to do it and in what order you need to do it in I do not care what a dll is I just want to what and when I have to do it.I know I will have play around a bit to get it running but I have know idea where to start or what order.I pretty sure I can handle installing the programs and playing with the settings to get it to run on vista I would be grateful for some one to explain the steps and what order to do stuff in.

Glide is for computers with Voodoo gfx cards, which I doubt your Vista comp has since Voodoo cards are now practically ancient:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voodoo_Graphics

If you want you can use Glide with other graphics cards, but you'll also need a Glide wrapper. But this has nothing to do with the emulators you asked about.
So, just ignore Glide for now. If you want to get into PSX or N64 emulation, then it might be relevant.

Most emulators can play zipped roms as long as there's no other file(s) in the zip with the rom.
However, no emulator can play roms in .rar or 7z files.
For those, you'll have to use WinRar or 7-Zip to extract them, to play them.

You don't need to worry about .dll files, unless your comp gives you an error message saying that you're missing one.

Also, try reading the text files that come with the emulators.
They explain a lot of what you need to know.
