I don't know. Once you've learned the alphabet, and gotten used to it, it's really just the same. I don't think I read Japanese much slower than I read English, provided I don't have to stop and look up Chinese characters (kanji) that I don't recognise.

I guess the grammar is different, but again, once you've gotten past the hurdle of thinking of everything in terms of your native language, it's really just different ways of communicating the same things. I don't know. I'm still impressed with how easily you all get by~

Like, I know Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and French are similar (all being derived from Late Latin, I think they're called Romance languages, but I don't know this too much), much like English and German. It is a big step when you tackle one that has different roots.
