    Question FTP help!??

Alright...I'm really excited to download the isos for Final Fantasy VII, but this is my first Isos download ever, and I'm having some trouble downloading the files with FTP programs...According to this tutorial, all I have to do is open CuteFTP, right click on the download link for a file, and click "copy link location"...umm...wouldn't I have to paste the link I copied to somewhere? Like CuteFTP? And, don't I have to log in to an FTP server URL thing as well in order to donwload these?

I downloaded both the CuteFTP 4 version (, which the tutorial provides,) and the most recent one--CuteFTP 8.1 Home edition, but just right-clicking and pressing "copy link location" on Firefox didn't really work on either of them...O.o

Would someone please be willing to offer a complete noob some help?

Also, after burning the Iso files on to a CD-R with Alcohol, would I be able to play those CD-R's on a real Playstation 1 console?

    Thanks a ton in advance!

I really wish MasJ had time to remove that old info about needing CuteFTP to download the ISO's.

That used to be true...back in 2003.

Nowadays, you just click the link and download it like any other.
And you can use download managers too if you want.

But to play burned games, you need to have a way to play backups on your PSX: mod chip, swap trick, etc.

Ah, I see...old info. I was using, then...but thanks for the quick reply! But, I've got another problem, then. After I downloaded Disc 1 File 1 for FFVII and I tried to extract the .img file from WinRAR over to a folder in my comp., it said "need Disc 1 File 2" or something along those lines. Do I just download all the files for FFVII disc 1 and then extract all 8 disc 1 files at the same time to a folder?

Downloading these files takes a long time...O.o I dunno if somebody else in the house would come up and mess with the comp. or something while I was trying to download all 8 disc 1 files...

They're actually 8 separate parts of 1 rar file.

So, you need all 8 parts before you can extract the game files.

Alright! Sounds like I'll be taking a few days downloading parts of the Disc 1 file now! Thanks for all your awesome help! If I have problems extracting them or burning them onto a CD, etc. I'll just ask...

    Thanks again!

Okay...I got 'em all downloaded for disc 1! Took me about 3-4 hours (along with the comp. crashing once and me having to restart it 3 times to get it working again ). Now, do I extract all of the files from each one into the folder I want them to be on my Comp. at the same time in order for it to work? How would I do that? Just hold down the shift button and click each directory folder in all 10 (thought it was 8 before) windows containing the parts of the Disc 1 file and move 'em there?

Also, can I move them into an external hard drive, or would that make disc burning and such things not work?

Put all the parts in the same folder.

    Right-click on any one part.

    Choose Extract.

    And that's it.

As for burning the ISO from an external drive, I've never done it, but I guess it would work.
Might take longer to burn or something though

    Alright...

I'm in the current processing of downloading all the parts into one folder, but each time I try to add a new part to the folder, it asks me if I want to overwrite the existing files with the same name (like the .img and .sub files). I keep clicking "Yes to All". Am I doing it right?

Also, when i extract the files to the folder, it looks like this instead of this (taken from this guide). I'm sure I'm doing something wrong... Before I continue downloading, I want to know if I'm doing it right...

Thanks so much, and sorry you have to deal with my noob-ish questions! heh...

EDIT: Also, I'd be very happy if anyone else could answer my questions too!

EIDT2: This is what it looks like when I'm extracting flies to a folder from WinRAR: Clicky! Is this correct? O.o It's not really workin' for me...XD

The result of the extraction process should be the img/sub/ccd/cue files.

To extract those files, just highlight all of them and hit the extract to button to select where do you want to extract them.

Oh, really? So this is what my folder's supposed to look like? I thought all of them would be compressed into one Game file...Ah well...thanks, and sorry for the trouble!

Now to work with Alcohol 120% and the CD-R burning process...

EDIT: Quick question already! lol It's about Alcohol 120%...when I click on "Image Burning Wizard", it asks me for an .img file to burn. Should I chose the .cue or .ccd file?

(I know I am a complete n00b at this, but think about it this way--you won't have to explain this stuff to me ever again after this! lol XD )

Just to let you know, here are the other most common formats that CD game images come in:

    Just one file
.iso (Not as common as it once was)
.cdi (DiscJuggler's format, and it's more common with DreamCast CD images)
.nrg (Nero's format, also seen more often for DreamCast)

    Two Files
.mds + .mdf (Alcohol 120% format, very popular for all systems)
.cue + .bin (CDRWin's format, and probably the most common format for PSX)

    Three Files
.ccd + .img + .sub (CloneCD format, very common)
.cue + .img + .sub (Also CloneCD format, very common)
.cue + .bwt + .bin (BlindWrite's format, and it's not that common)

    Four Files
.ccd + .cue + .img + .sub (Again CloneCD)

Awesome, SegNin! Great to know! *bookmarks post*

Anyway, I had thought I posted this sort of message before I left for a while, but once I got back, I realized I hadn't posted it... Anyway, when I opened up the disk burning wizard on Alcohol 120%, it asked me to choose an image file to burn. Should I choose the .cue or .ccd file?

EDIT: No, wait! I did ask it! I guess they just missed missed my edit in my post before Cookie's... Anyway, which one? XP

You can choose either, but the .ccd is the better choice.

The .ccd includes info about the .sub file (sub channel data), which the .cue file doesn't include.
But PSX games don't seem to need the sub channel data, so that's why the .cue file would work too.
