It was either the XP Network update to make it visible to Vista machines, or the Windows Genuine Tool that made sure I didn't steal my winders.
One of them fucked it all up.

Control Panel > add/remove programs > Scroll down til you find "windows XP update/hotfix/etc". Remove the installed recently installed updates, reboot. Where's ma $10?dammit.

I'm keeping the $10, because all the dated hotfixes are 2005/2006. There are tons of undated updates, but I have no idea what they are.
Another reason to kick Bill Gates in the balls. Vista sucks so bad it took my XP install down with it.
