Microsoft is the fucking brand, what are you expecting? It's not like Apple could put a trademark on the letter "i". They're just trying to be original by sticking an i infront of every shit product they sell/bundle/give/whatever and worst is that people are catching on! Besides, Mac users seems like elitists assholes most of the time somehow, as if because Apple made it, it's a better product.
Oh and what the fuck is up with the iLife suite? They're trying to re-invent living now? What kind of people would think they got enough power to challenge the man?
You can't go "iSTFU" and then say stuff.

Much like MS puts Microsoft in front of their every shitty products. Besides, whenever someone talks about Windows, we all know it's not Linux or Mac based.

Calling Mac users elitist assholes after claiming it's shit compared to MS is being an elitist asshole of sorts.

/yet another pointless post in a pointless thread

I think you're not grasping the fact Microsoft is the company creating the product, not a catchy prefix that actually means nothing.
How can that be the same concept when you're pulling one out of nowhere?

I'd pick a Zune anyday rather than an iPhone.

    Also, PH, remember this?

Because saying Mac Office or Apple Something would be considered copying MS' style. Hence the semi meaningless 'i'.

no i grasp that its actually the companies name...

im just pointing out that it is the similar to using the i before products

its how you know something was made by apple

someone sees itunes - oh it was made by apple

someone sees microsoft office - oh it was made by microsoft

a weak comparison perhaps but it does make a slight bit of sense

Really? Then I'm a tool of Gates for calling this a Creative Zen or that a Nintendo DS or that other thing a Yamaha piano? My, I never would have guessed...it's not really a stylistic thing to call the OS Microsoft Windows in the same manner Apple uses their "i" for everything. I agree that the prefix "i" does represent Apple to many, but I disagree that it isn't a touch pretentious to do so in this manner. The "i" represents Apple in the same way "cola" represents soft drinks, "band-aids" represent bandages, and "Q-Tips" represent cotton swabs. It's a very specific, very focused type of product branding to generalize, only in a different direction. The examples I gave are a product giving its name to all objects like it due to market dominance, but Apple aggressively pushes this name campaign precisely to show that they're edgy and different, that it isn't an Apple Macintosh (as they used to be called back in the good old days), but an iMac. It is a rather weak comparison, because the connotations are rather different with of the different styles. Microsoft identifies itself in a normal manner, as one would view many products built by any specific company (the Nintendo DS or the Creative Zen Vision W), and Apple uses this prefix and their unique aesthetic to identify themself. There is a reason for the difference.
