    Default Alienware Area 51

Well, after days of negociations. My parents have finally gave in. I am building my custom Alienware computer on the Alienware site as I type this. I am leaving most of the settings they have for their "Area 51" model. I just want some opinions on anything I should change. I already have some ideas in mind. But, I want the best performence possible from this computer. So, any ideas are welcome.

I just can't wait to "get my game on" with this amaxzing system.

Alien-ware? Is that when you take a bunch of stuff from different computers and make them into one? A motherboard form one, a graphics card from another? Always get a fast processor. It's the base of a fast computer

    Default Alienware

Alienware makes great pc gamming computers, (computers I build, at lower cost) This is if you have the money.

RAM: opt for the 1gig pc-1066 instead of their 512mb.
Video: change the nvidia 4600 to ati 9700 pro
Those would be the only changes I would make. But a custom pc costing that much, You should really look in to buying the parts serperatly and making your own pc. But if you have cash to burn Alienware is in opinion the best pc makers.

Graphics, and 3D polygons don't make great games, story-lines do!!

I have decided to put together my own. This is when I found out that the money for the alienware would have to come out of my money I am saving for a car. I have previously pieced computers for friends and family so it'll be a sinch. I will show you guys the components I have chosen. This one isnt the fastest out there...But it'll be fast. I'm on a budget now.

Alienware's just started manufacturing with R300. Very nice.

Vengeance, tell me your budget and I will list everything you need and want and where to find it all for the best prices.

Alienware! They'll make you BEND OVER! Don't do it!

Just build it yourself... let Magus review your budget and he will put up a great system...but be forewarned... he is one of them "Intel Powered Admin" club. So have ca$h ready as Intel processors are expensive! Get an Ati radeon 9700.... You won't be sorry!

And grantu2... 1 gig of ram is overkill! Even more if it is RAMBUS!

1 gig of rambus, sounds like my man! but pc1066 is still expensive, and i really think that 512-640 megs of pc800 rambus would suite you well (if you dont know how to stuff 640 megs of rambus in, it's 2x256 mb, 1x128 + rambus terminator. rambus terminator costs VERY VERY HIGH, exacly $3 lol. so you put 2x256 inside of first pair of slots, and inside second pair 128 megs and terminator). and get p4 2.0, if you really have money to build it go for 2.4ghz with 533mhz fsb.

Don't worry Galcian. Vengeance is a good friend and I would never make him spend more than he needs to even if I do prefer Intel. Good idea Ganon. I will opting for 1066 Rambus more than likely, but 800 is good enough for most people. Also, 1 gig might seem like a lot but memory intensive progs and games can eat it up. If you are huge on gaming or you are a 3D artist (like with floating-point progs) I would suggest 1gig of PC800 and maybe 512 or a bit more like Ganon said of 1066.
