Aha, finally I figured out those fucking respawner replicator booth things. You have to turn off the "cyborg production" SHODAN installed on all of them. It's a random switch in the level that doesn't at all have to be near the respawn booth, and your only clue that you've found the right switch is that when you hit it, you hear a computer voice announce "CYBORG PRODUCTION OFFLINE. NOMRAL REPAIR MEDICAL FUNCTIONS RESTORED." If you die before hitting the switch, you see a cutscene of you being turned into a robot and get game over. Afterwards, you get to respawn whenever you die. :O

System shock was originally released on floppy disc with no music or voice overs. There are text versions of everything you can turn on. I keep 'em off; I like the voice acting and the HUD is already cluttered as it is.
