Yeah it's definitely better than nothing. And yeah, no sense in severing any connection over it. If you didn't really talk to him much to begin with then it matters even less. I have brothers I'm close with and one I'm not, and I've seen plenty of both situations with friends. Just because you are related to someone it doesn't earn them anything in my book.
