British shows have an advantage or two they generally produce less episodes per season, about 6 per season whereas American shows run for 24 episodes and multiple seasons which makes it much harder to write that many episodes. Also British shows have just one writer, American shows have a team of writers so the quality for an American show will on average be lower and will vary because of the different writers.
