Final Fantasies can get repetitive because of that, it was nice to see FFX and FFXII kind of brought those into the series.
Random battles are annoying. In .hack// you can see the 'monster portals' and you walk up to them to activate them. Clearing them all in a level isn't required to progress, but you'll level up faster (and gain goodies) if you do.
