Default Ufo Defense: Half screen problem

When I try to run older games, I get the top half of the screen only. The bottom is just black. With most games I can switch to window and that solves it, but I have XCOM collectors edition or some such and can't switch. I have tried running in DosBox, but since this is the collectors edition, it doesn't benefit from DosBox, as it is a remake for early windows.

    PCWizard says:
    AMD Athlon 3400+ @ 2200 MHz
    Acer FC51GM mainboard
    nVidia nForce 430 chipset
    1 x 512 MB DDR-SDRAM
nVidia GeForce 6100 PCI 256 MB

So I would like some advice on getting this to work, or failing that, an active link for the PSX iso. The one's listed in other threads don't do anything for me.

Edit: Found link. Emuxperts.net ftw But help with the half screen problem would still be much appreciated.

Lower your desktop's resolution to say, 800 x 600 maybe?

Early Windows means it was made when monitors had lower resolutions.

If that doesn't help, try running it in the windows 95 compatability layer. Right click the shortcut, go to properties, go to the compatibility tab and select check the box for run under compatibility layer and make sure windows 95 is selected.

I've tried every compatibility mode option I can, in every combination. No dice. I'll try the resolution switch later, cuz my monitor is an old POS and that is really hit or miss. Most resolutions only work at certain refresh rates, so my screen goes FUBAR if I try to switch one. Then I have to try switching the other blind.

Try 800x600@75Hz, if it can't do that... Get a new one

My other one just appears to not get power, so that should be a cheap fix when I get around to it. Much better monitor, same problem with x com.

I'm assuming winxp right? Try an update

    http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_162.18.html

You could also try this: go to start > run > 'dxdiag' > Display > and disable diractdraw, Direct3D and AGP texture accelerating (I think that's what they are). Disabling directdraw disables all of them I think.
