Never one to keep his opinions to himself, the Rocket Man has waded into cyberspace with all guns blazing.![]()
Well yeah, becuase of the internet there are a lot more shitty bands being 'noticed.' I think shutting down the internet would be a great experiment for art. But then it would just make it harder for more artists, whether they're good or not to get noticed.
But it's pretty much an impossibility, and Elton John's gay anyway, so...
you heard the man! Get those tubes clogged!
Apparently, the internet is going to die before the end of the year, anyway.

It's Elton John.
Don't encourage him.
Shutting down the internet? Nah. Shutting down Myspace though... I'd support that. Seriously, think about it. Almost overnight we could get rid of these shitty *core bands and their homogenous fanbase. Elton's almost there, bless him, he just needs steering in the right direction.
Think of how much porn I could produce in the time I spent on the internet.
DO IT ELTON!
Oh, and a lot of my art is pretty... disturbing according to the "public".
And death row inmates.
Take that as you will.
Or one of those 'rate my aging musician boyfriend' sites.
In order to aid the creation of music, what we really need to do is ban one of the channels by which music can be most easily showcased? Oh yeah! Now that you mention it, I do see the logic there. Maybe we should also ban casual sports playing for kids? That'll definitely lead to more sports stars coming through the ranks! Or electronic word processors and typewriters? I mean...having to write a novel completely by hand is just the thing to make more people want to write!
It amazes me that a man that old and that worldly could be that stupid. Obviously the internet does make it much easier for talentless nobodies to reach the public eye. But it equally makes it easier for people with real talent to get the recognition they deserve. I think that's more than a fair tradeoff. Nobody is going to take any notice of the former as anything but a passing novelty, anyway. And far too many genuinely good artists pass under the radar even with the net. They need all the help they can get.
Besides which...even assuming that his statements were logical...banning an incredible piece of technology to further the development of one creative sector? Yeah, that makes sense. Why not just ban books and movies as well, so that even more people will get into music?
Oh, and 'LOL' at 10 'fantastic' albums coming out per week in the 70s. That is all.![]()
