    Default The Sushi Lover's Thread

Hey all. I love sushi. I don't care for wasabi, but I don't think that not eating it with my sushi really detracts from my full appreciation of the food.

I was sick and tired of paying too much money for sushi at restaurants (actually all restaurants are charging way too much nowadays), so I decided to conduct a little experiment called "Homemade Sushi a la McGuinty". Here is what i put into my maki rolls:

Here is what they ended up looking like:

They ended up being delicious, but the end of the experiment made me realize two things:
    1) Making sushi is not easy if you're not set up for it. I spent 2 1/2 hours in the kitchen last night, though I could have pared that down by a good 45 minutes, but still...
    2) Making sushi properly is not cheap. I spent a little over $30 collecting the ingredients for 4 rolls of sushi. Factoring in the time investment, it is not worth it to make it myself, at least not without help. Oh well.

This thread is not limited to maki, any kind of sushi, such as sashimi, nigiri, oshi etc. is fine by me. Never had sushi? It won't kill you to try. Anything you're wondering about sushi that you want to know? Ask away, or visit this site.

very very tasty looking spread you got going there. It's increasing my appetite just looking at it all. By the way, Wasabi wasn't traditionally used with Sushi, and when it was at first, it was a sweeter kind than is typically used now.

really? that's interesting. I thought i was just not man enough to handle it. It didn't seem to matter how much soy i mixed in with it, it still made my mouth feel like it was going to melt away.

i dig the pickled ginger though. It really does work for cleansing your palette, but i think it would taste funny with anything but seafood. Lemon sherbet is better between courses of European cuisine. Americans generally don't give a frozen turd, they just thow everything together.

FedEx. I hear they allow refrigerated shipping. Besides, FedEx is better with everything. Everything arrives without dents.

Sushi are easier to make once you have the "little bamboo sushi rug" that I forgot the name of.

Yours are too big, how am I supposed to dip that in soy sauce? Ok then, ill pour the soy sauce on it instead...
Pickled ginger's the best thing to wash your mouth between 2 different sushi "flavors". I guess it would be weird to clean your palette with some between chocolate cookies and vanilla ones.

Yeah right. I'd pay to see you take a good 43g of wasabi in tube.

i love wasabi, in small doses.. I know I could handle it if I ate an insane amount at once like for a dare.. I wouldn't however snort a line of the shit up my nose -Steve-O fashion. Mmm you said it Polobunny the pickled ginger is awesome. I used to work at Yoshinoya it's like a japanese fast food resturaunt kinda, anyways I used to throw plenty of ginger on the meals id eat while on shift.

Raw. I mean raw fish. I am so on the verge of turning into a vegetarian, so I shall keep my views to myself for the moment. You seem very artistic with your food though, Guinty: )
