Daemon should be able to handle mdf/mds files fine, renaming things might just confuse it so stop fiddling with the filenames. Mount the .mds file, once that's done correctly you'll see a new CD drive on your drive list that has Castlevania loaded on it. Then get epsxe to play off that drive.

look i got the deamon tools and mounted the image but now for some reason every time i double clik on epsxe a message comes up sayin:
this aplication has failed to start because WNASPI32.dll was not found. reinstalling the application may fix this problem. wat is this? and how do i config my cdr plugin to match my virtual drive? wat cdr plugin do i use?

... first off start over and reinstall epsxe. Use the following drivers:
video- pete's d3d driver 1.76
sound- eternal spu plugin 1.41
cdrom- SaPu's CD-ROM plugin 1.00
that is what i used to get my emulator to run perfectly

as for the mds\f file,u can download a program called alcohol 120%(note that it is only a trial version, the real one u have to pay for). go to file\options\virtual drive\#of virtual drives = 1

wait for alcohol to apply the new settings

next go to My Computer and the virtual drive will show up as an extra cd\dvd rom drive. right click on it and select "mount image", locate the mdf or mds file and click ok\save or whatever it says. Finally, open epsxe and set the cdrom plugin option to read the cdrom from the virtual cdrom drive (usually ( e:\ ).

Now go to file\run cdrom and it will play from the virtual disk drive.

After you fix your Aspi layer, follow these instructions EXACTLY.

First, install and configure Daemon Tools to create a virtual drive on your computer. After doing that you should see a small icon in your system tray that looks like a lightning bolt. Right-click on that lightning bolt, choose "Options", and make sure there's a check mark next to "Analog Audio". <--- very important

Now this time left-click the lightning bolt icon, and click where it says "Device #: [ *: ] No Media", then choose either the .ccd, .mds, or .cue file by double-clicking it.
#: will be a number like 0:
[ *: ] will be a letter like [ H: ]

Now Double-click My Computer, and you should see your new virtual drive. It's letter will be the same as the letter for[*]. If you want, you can double-click the virtual drive to open it, and see all the files in the ISO. But that's not necessary.

Now open ePSXe by double-clicking it, and click Config > Cdrom > Configure. Then, for the option of selecting which drive, choose your new Daemon Tools virtual drive (It's the one named Generic DVD-ROM).

Now you're ready to play the game.
For ePSXe, go to File > Run CDROM.
And your game should start.

i know but i already have a registered copy of alcohol and that's really the only one i know how to use and its really reliable

thx heaps for your help but it didnt work still. the screen just goes black and changes resolution then nothing. i waited for like 45 mins with a black screen but no-go. i have tried now a total of 22 times and just dont know. can someone pm me so i can ask u somethingi am not allowed to post plz.

Somebody recently uploaded another torrent for Castlevania Symphony of the Night, only this one is bin/cue, so you won't need to mount it to a virtual drive to play it in ePSXe.
