    What about javascript?

ADDITION: you guys take for granted that google and such companies won't do somthing like making it possible for viruses to get in. Google was not only an example but google too can go astray if it wishes, unlikely, but possible. Don't forget my argument against norton, any company will feel it can do anything if it feels it has everyone wrapped around their finger.

That's what the checkbox labelled "Javascript kytss" (in English Javascript enabled) is for, in case there is some stupid script like on emuparadise that tries to install something very persistently. But still you need IE (or a browser based on it) to make those things install by themselves.

And yes, every time someone talks about Norton, it seems to be flaming against it.

Oh, right. Used to have it, but formatted and didn't bother to reinstall it. Got AVG Free instead. Works fine.

I'd go with Kasperspy, but it's not free... so the next best thing would be AVG

You should add 'I had Norton but switched to another AV'

I now use Avast free edition and loving it... No more Ram holes....

If i did add it i'd have to start it over because some people would have to change their answer.

A good antivirus will protect you against most malicious scripts/applets you'll encounter in some sites, but some of those it won't pick up. Those might be viruses or spyware, and no AV software is perfect, so you should use a browser that has high security settings. That means absolutely no ActiveX, and cookie permissions set to tight. Firefox will stop a lot of shit, but a java applet could screw you over if you don't have an AV. I don't know about Opera too much yet, but I think it also has a certain element of protection. Hell, anything is better than IE, so watch out for that.

Considering i don't go to many different websites i don't need to worry, so i use IE. If i get anything using IE i can pretty much pinpoint where it came from. If i have to do a web search on somthing or go to a site htat hasn't been reffered to by a link here or some where else or if a link here or some where else i'm used to warns of possible adware or such on that site, i use ZoneAlarm's scriptblocking ability. Blocks java. lol I installed firefox but for some reson that program cant access the internet, either my ISP blocked the ports used for it (wouldn't surprise me cause they love to use customers as test subjects) or i missed a firewall setting i have in zone alarm.

I had Norton SystemWorks 2003 installed even though it did put somewhat of a strain on my system's resources.
Then one day I updated my Anti-Virus, and restarted my computer.
And when I restarted, I found that Norton had fouled up many of my drivers, including the ones for my Internet connection.
After reformatting, I got a copy of McAfee Antivirus, and have had no complaints.
Except when McAfee deleted the MP3 to WAV decompressor that comes with Cassini because it detected a trojan.
    That I didn't like.

I have it on my computer, but I hate it. I can get rid of it but I allready paid for it-dammit.

Norton Internet Security screws up my Internet explorer, and I get a "Cannot display Page" , so I have two options

    1. Turn it off and risk virus
    2. Use firefox

Even though it sounds dum, I choose the first option; because firefox takes too long to load up message boards.

Man, you're swamped... you better look at getting spyware killers. Message boards load just fine with Firefox, unless you're on Dial-up...

If you want a good AV, but don't wanna kill your computer or internet, I'd suggest AVG or Avast. Avast has a free version that is better then Norton in ways.

And Firefox is better than IE, anything is, even Opera, just don't use IE unless you have XP SP2, then you're safer, but not as safe as Firefox is...
