Well, if you had a Gmail account I could forward you some good death metal I have in my mailbox. I don't have the time to u/l some Death right now, but you can check out some death metal in a thread(titled Death Metal) and check out the bands listed there.

For song downloads of great DM bands, go to:
http://worshipdepraved.com/

Also view Swedishmetal.net, and search for bands of the death metal genre. A few of the bands' sites I would've reccomend right now are not working, so just check out the links provided. Death metal>you>Cradle of Filth. Speaking of which, CoF's demo release was totally death metal... then they changed their style drastically and Dani Filth had his testicles removed. Also listen to Decapitated(get the songs "Three Dimensional Defect", "Babylon's Pride", and "Spheres of Madness"), illustrates what a lot of brutal DM sounds like.

Edit: Oh yes, download "Scars of the Crucifix" by Deicide, and "Dechristianize" by Vital Remains for perfect examples of (Satanic) death metal. Most other DM is about gore/violence etc.

Caerau: Did you hear the stuff that Dillinger Escape Plan did with Mike Patton? Noisy bastards.

I'm not too into the whole genre thing, but I thought nu metal tended to involve some goon on a set of decks or a sample machine or something, rather than the more traditional line up. I'm gonna invite ridicule by saying that slipknot aren't always bad. They'd probably get a lot more respect if it wasn't for the legions of small children in their hoody/dress combos.
I'm gonna say that I thought Mudvayne were awesome too, and thei bass player is pretty sick.
Linkin Park plainly suck the balls though. I was unfortunately reminded of something MUCH worse the other day though. Anyone remember Crazy Town? I accidently saw one of their videos the other day. It made me envy the deaf. And the blind.
One thing that always used to piss me off were kids saying "Hip hop is rubbish" "Yeah, more like cRAP" "haha" etc, then singing the praises of Limp dickshit or something. Rubbish.
Anyone got an opinion of Bleeding Through? Pretty fucking brutal. and the singer used to play guitar in Throwdown apparently.
And everyone should check out "Bring you to your knees: a tribute to Guns n Roses" because it is awesome.
And while you're at it, "Progression through unlearning" and "end transmission" by Snapcase, for a couple of albums that are both lovely, but in pretty different ways. I'd be tempted to ignore the song "Coagulate" as an example of what's good about that album, or tha band in general though.

Yeah, shit I hate nu metal, horrible approach to a godly genre. But I have to say I do enjoy sytem of a down, and more notably the Deftones. They have real skill, their songs are eerie and Stephen Carpenter (guitar) is an FX god. I never really considered them nu metal, I guess they got grouped w/the rest of those fags.

Slipknot is tEh suck

Yes... nu metal frequently involves having some talentless dumbass behind a dashboard/sample machine(ie: Static X, Slipknot, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit...). God how I hate Static X... I see nothing special about Mudvayne's bassist... oh wait, well it's probably the only nu metal band in which you can hear the bass guitar... But seriously, nothing special, they just turned the bass' volume up. Necrophagist's bass lines are nothing short of wizardry, so go listen to "Foul Body Autopsy", "Epitaph", and "Extreme Unction".

I'm not a huge fan of Dillinger, but I did like the newest album somewhat. It's just excessively technical, so only musical geniuses will be able to fully appreciate their work. "Panasonic Youth", although fucking impossible to follow, is a great song.

Bleeding Through are a hardcore/metalcore band, while Throwdown are pure hardcore. BT aren't so great really... All That Remains -a very similar band- are extremely better. Although I really don't like Bleeding Through, they don't deserve to be grouped with the bunch of talentless fucks that are nu metal.

The extremely forced vocals in hardcore really turn me off, hence why I don't listen to bands like Hatebreed or Bleeding Through. Himsa and Unearth are okay, I just have to try to ignore the vocalist.

If you think BT are brutal, just give the following bands some listens:
Decapitated, Avulsed, Morbid Angel, Deicide, Necrophagist, Arsis, Cannibal Corpse, Sepultura(early), Entombed(early), and Krisiun. Kind of like a "death metal starter pack", I say.

He overdosed, like... a year ago during a tour and died. That's all I know. They replaced him with "Gong" or something like that... not really that bad, but not as good as the original Drowning Pool.

Nu metal has some of the most over rated bands ever. You want to compare Korn to any good bands. Or any other shitty nu metal band.

Even though I'm not a metalhead, I'm willing to say 99% of metal bands could kick the shit out of korn.

Bleeding Through is brutal i guess, i'm not as much into metalcore. I find Throwdown to be brutal. I also find Norma Jean to be quite brutal. Along with Falling Cycle, Skcamefalling, xdeathstarx, etc. As you can tell I'm mostly into hardcore. Any of this is far better than any of the shit that is called Nu metal. I really cant stand that everyone thinks Korn is great. Their guitarists have no talent. Any Amateur drummer could play the drum lines. The bass is simple. Bottom line, no talent. This commercial Nu metal is an insult to other underground bands/genres that actually require talent.

Damn fucking straight. I'm not fond of hardcore, but it does kick the living shit out of nu metal(the guitar work and drumming are not much different from modern metal bands, hence why I like a few Himsa and Unearth songs). Oh yes, 99% is a bad approximation. More like 99.999999999999999999999999% of all metal bands kick Korn's record-puking ass. Hate to break this to you Howie, but you should know this better than I do! Like I said, a few SoaD and Slipknot songs along with Devildriver are exceptions, and I'm sure there are other worthwhile nu metal bands out there, but they all pale in comparison to real metal bands...

Why people praise Korn is beyond me... there are barely any riffs in their songs, and the drums are just there, they don't even give an accent to the so called riffs.. I too feel that nu metal is an insult to the lesser-known extreme metal bands. Just listening to Disturbed's "Down with the Sickness" or any Static X song gives me convulsions... I mean, no decent instrumentation, lyrics, or even singing for that matter... Just a bunch of electronic effects with an occasional 1-2 riff looped for 3 minutes... that's almost every single song in the genre...

Only recently ( and thanks to Howie and Soeru) have my eyes been opened to real metal (Arsis, Amon Amarth, Finntroll, Luca Turilli, ect.). Not that I've listened to much nu-metal in the last couple of years. Mostly VGM and J-Pop, and of course Rammstein. Still, the bands I've listed above do, in fact, rule. Especially Amon Amarth. Also, is anyone here a fan of Zao? I recently got their new album "Funeral of God" and it's great, albeit that the only constant in Zao (drummer Jesse) seems to have left the band. Still, it's forgivable, since the new drummer rocks hard. And Dan Weyandt is still the singer, which is also a good thing. Best Zao vocalist ever.

EDIT: Ah yes, yet another thread killed by yours truly.

Nu-Metal died a fair while ago, but when it was in it's prime, the ones that sucked were generally the ones cashing in on it's popularity. I like System Of A Down, One Minute Silence, some Chimaira, Slipknot's self titled has some great tracks on it...
