A question to Metal Gear fans...

I've had this question bugging me for 6 years, and since today I loaded up MGS I think it's time that I should ask.
Just what the hell does Snake do after you beat a boss? I mean, he raises his hand to his mouth... and then what? The health bar gets larger, but what the hell does he do?
Finally, I let that out.

He is merely relaxing. Sighing and resting. the hand thing might show that he is..... doing something. I seem to like the idea that he is eating a ration. Nothing else really makes too much sense.

More people here need to think metaphysically.
Maybe the health bar is not really health, but is will power and training. In real life, one bullet kills you, you're dead. But Snake uses will power to hang on, along with FOXHOUND training. Maybe after beating a boss, he has more will to go on, and is more experienced.

One bullet will not necessarily kill you in real life. In fact, people can run quite well with after taking 2 shots(in not-so-obvious locations) if you've managed to stop the bleeding. A grenade explosion will leave you permanently maimed however, since it tears off your flesh. Your analogy on experience/will is quite interesting though. No one seems to know exactly what he does...

Rations? I wonder where he gets the rations from in extreme mode then, since after a boss fight in that difficulty I have no rations left. Maybe he pulls them out of his ass? He's a tough guy, after all.

i have to agree with u guys that explains everthing snake has asthma and doesnt want to quit smoking so he dies slowly but after he beats a boss he pulls rations out of his ass wich is atcually giving him the will to survive after being shot in not so obvious places!
that must be why!
