I can not believe that the RIAA is so bent on suing people that they would sue a 66 year old woman....
Doesn't matter how old they are, filesharing is illegal. The reason it got dropped was because she knew shit about computers and didn't even install a filesharing program, as stated by her lawyer.Originally posted by GustaveX

Oh that's just hilarious. I can see her now, a 66yr old woman c'walkin while listening to trick daddy "bbaby cause I'm a th-thug.. all day e-everday".taken from FOXNews.com
... It accused her of illegally sharing more than 2,000 songs through the file-sharing service Kazaa (search), including rapper Trick Daddy's "I'm a Thug."
How'd they name her as a filesharer anyways?
They said she was accused of sharing 2000+ songs on kazaa but she uses a mac. Are there programs out there that can run on the mac that use the kazaa network?.. fasttrack or something like that I think. I know there's other programs out there like grokster and some others that use the kazaa network, might be some mac ones.
it is quite easy to catch people the majority of the time, as its fairly easy to get the person your uploading from's ip addresse and from that you can get the exact info on their home adresse, service provider, phone number, and alot more....Originally posted by RoseDragon83L

Notice that they haven't caught any major file sharers yet.![]()
For the tech-savvy people here, it seems all you have to do is UNSHARE your files or don't share music. Notice they are getting the people that have thousands upon thousands of music files shared.
When I was using Kazaa, I only shared my rarer anime or just anime period. I don't think the RIAA or MPAA are losing money for you downloading the recently licensed Gundam SEED and thus don't care.
Let me also add, that it's usually unsuspecting children who are the main perpetrators in these suits--they just know to type in the song and it downloads. They don't mess with options or additional settings. They're oblivious.
And one more thing... we've still got Bittorrent, RIAA/MPAA biotches!!!
yup, because odds are that people with thousands will get caught and not the people with only 2 files being shared. when your not sharing, its a little harder for someone to get your ip addresse too, so it would be probably more effort than they want to put in at this time....Originally posted by Traen

I don't know about that one? Was'nt the RIAA saying at first that would be the main people they were trying to bring down, and also the RIAA really has not put out any info about the amount of songs these people have been caught with.Originally posted by Lord Riff Raff

All the reports I have read have stated that the alleged criminals were sharings thousands. It states that in the link provided at the top.
Yes but they've been catching kids, not major servers.
They've yet to catch a major operation of deliberate file sharing.

As far as I know, the old woman wasn't filesharing at all.
Reassuring evidence that the RIAA is incompetant.
I don't know if anyone's mentioned this because i haven't read the whole thread. But anyway, on a related note, i read in the newspaper that they've sued a girl for downloading nursery rhymes, which i find quite odd....
Actually, they have successfully prosecuted the head of an MP3 ripping group known as the Apocolypse Crew (APC). They were quite a large MP3 ripping & distribution group.Originally posted by Lord Riff Raff
