What are stables in SvR 2011?

Can somebody explain to me what are stables and how to use or make them?
I have been playing WWE: SvR 2011 for the PS2 for some time now, and I'm still wondering what is the stable for when I am choosing characters in Custom Matches.

Basically it's just a team of three or more wrestlers - think DX or NWO. If you put a bunch of characters into a stable they'll help each other out in career mode and form tag teams or whatever.

Then what is the "stable" action for when I am in the Character Selection Screen?
I meant, the box or [] button on the PS2? Because I kept pressing it and nothing happens.
I was just curious what was the [] button for.
