They got scared with far better reception towards PS4, they would lose $$$. At least they were reasonable enough to (finally) drop these restrictions, but not because they have good intentions in their hearts and care about gamers freedom

However, the damage is already done. I prefer PC gaming and I don't either live in the, US, but if did and was to choose a console, I'd get a PS4 for $ 399 + 2x $30 games and would spend the remaining $40 with my girlfriend, haha, this is the best deal!

EDIT: I've found out all PS4 titles currently cost rough $60, damn, the profit they don't make on consoles they make on games

Now that they got their weird, teenage 1984 days out of the way, all they have to worry about is that it: still forces the kinect on you, is still weaker than sony's machine, and still cost 100 dollars more.
3 very strong points - for me the Kinect is a total deal-breaker, it should be optional, and that GDDR5 RAM in the PS4 is gonna run circles around the Xbone, especially since it's a dedicated gaming machine, and not having to run TV and God knows what else while you play your games. Lets not forget that the PS4 will have swappable HDDs, just like the PS3. Xbone does not, and will rely on external HDD attachments (like the Wii U).

Where have you been for the last 8 years? I even remember some SNES games costing upwards of $70 back in the day. I remember when the SNES launched Kay-Bee Toys had all their initial games marked up to $60 each, when everywhere else games were $50. Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy III were both in the $65 to $70 range, depending on what store you went to.

$60 is nothing new - we're damn lucky they didn't raise the price point.

I remember getting FF7 for $89.99 but it was from a Sony store and I think their prices were always high though.

Yeah, some places were just downright nasty with their pricing - If you didn't get a game from Best Buy, WalMart, Target, or some other big box retailer, you were probably going to pay at least $10 more than said places. I remember Killer Instinct was $60 everywhere the first month it came out, then it finally got dropped to the $50 norm.

During the PS2 shortage in it's infancy period, KayBee Toys once again took pleasure in fucking the customer - I went there and waited in line early in the morning the day they got their shipment, and made you buy a "bundle" or you couldn't get the system. Now, this bundle was a total ripoff - you got the system, a memory card and 2 games of your choice for a paltry $600. If you do the math, the system was $299, games were $50 each, and a mem card was probably $40 (don't remember). In total, you should have only spent around $450 plus tax, but they basically pocketed the extra $150.

Oh, and most of the games were sold out - I came home that day with Tekken Tag (not a bad pickup) and Madden (ugh). All I really wanted was SSX, but no deal.

Spencer, Mattrick... these guys are really consistent, less than a week ago they were saying their policy was definitive. And now this

Hell, even they got their toy dog to defend how good their stuff was..

Yeah, I think at this point I've settled on building a pc soon-ish, eventually buying a ps4, and maybe picking up a Legend of Zelda machineWiiU when it's dirt cheap.

Sometimes I wonder if it would just be cheaper to pick up a heroine addiction and just call it a day.

In the old days it was like the wild effing west with pricing. At least now it's all uniform.

If you wait til they release a new Zelda and not another HD revamp, by then the system should be dirt cheap since it will be about 4 years from now

At least the $60 towards heroin will probably make you feel better than most of the full priced games these days

This is absolutely the greatest pr disaster I have ever seen in this industry. And I just saw MS stating that they can't guarantee they won't change their policy (again) down the road.

As it looks now everything got better for the consumer. But I hope that people realize that Microsoft tried to fuck you in the ass. Just because they stopped it doesn't make everything okay.

With all what PC support? Just because 2 people said they might make a gaming rig does not mean the industry is all of a sudden gonna boom.

Agreed - I was thinking the same thing about this being the worst PR disaster since EA and their mishandling/PR spinning of SimCity. Seriously, how do you go from a staunch stance on DRM, no used games or rentals to "we want to please out customers and listen to our feedback."

Bullshit - M$ thought they had a stranglehold on the console industry and wanted to run it "their" way, but it blew up spectacularly in their face and now they claim it's "for the customer"? If people don't see through this then there's no hope for the gamers of the future.

    Damn right.

Seems like everyone that was mad in the first place is seeing through the bullshit at least. I know I'm still not getting one.
