Default Urgently need help emulating a demo disc

    Hi.

I really need help getting a certain game demo from a demo disc to run. I've been trying for days, but it won't work. This is the game: http://www.emuparadise.me/Sony_Plays..._%28E%29/52613 It has a demo called DOOM. But I can't get it to go past the LOADING message.

I've already tried mounting the image, but it doesn't work.

    HELP PLEASE!

Uhh, I don't emulate Playstation stuff. But I have some old advice that may be helpful. Don't use Epsxe with compilation demo discs. It's built to run one game at a time, and run it well. Jumping through menus on demos can mess it up as different parts of the demo can be coded to run in entirely different ways. Instead try pSX or something (I donno what a current good alternative would be).
*PSA* Wii Redump collector's can now unscrub ISO files. So scrubbed games can now be verified. You can find the program to do this here

While I appreciate the help, I should point out that I don't think it's the emulator that's struggling with the game. Actually, on a side note, I've been going through so many demo/compilation discs through epsxe and it goes perfectly. It's just this particular game demo on the demo disc. Now you might be thinking, then, that this particular demo file is corrupt or that the included game is corrupt. I guarantee you that this is not the case. Because you might notice (through some google searches) that it seems to be a common problem with quite a few PSX games, including the full version of Doom and Final Doom. You'll notice that the common problem with Doom/Final Doom on the PSX when emulating is that the game freezes on the LOADING screen. For those 2 games, the simple solution was to mount the ISO to a drive and play. However, that doesn't work with this Doom demo, even though it presents the exact same issue.

And, yes I've confirmed it, which I'm sorry I didn't mention in the first post, I tried another emulator. I tried also with Xebra. It presents the exact same issues with Doom on this demo disc.

Please, I'd REALLY be grateful if someone can help me get this thing working.

Is there a reason for not just downloading the demo for PC?

PC vs PSX version of DooM are not the same

I will quickly test this though in ePSXe (well as quick as it takes to download that is)

EDIT: works just fine for me

1 Ape to Wav convert then rename the Wav files to Bin
    2 unecm the ecm file
3 get the cue sheet for this from the cue's and sbi's file
4 open the cue with ISObuster
5 Extract CD <image> to RAW (*.iso *.bin) (I went with *.bin it will ask to save a cue at the end as well)
6 run in ePSXe 1.8.0 via run ISO
7 played and died rather quick lol

I always use P.E.O.p's soft video plugin myself but don't see why it would not work with other plugins aswell

P.S. the over the top converting to a single Bin+Cue is needed as ePSXe can not handle CDDA games as lots of bin or wav files from run ISO

Thanks a lot for your help, but I need clarification if you can, please.

-Which ape files, the ones in the original rar download? How you did that?
-How do I produce the cue sheet, exactly? I'm not sure.

And yes, I agree about the CCDA games not handled well

I put a guide up some time back for this at http://www.epforums.org/showthread.php?57757

P.S. the sticky threads are stuck for a reason, that guide is in the Sony system guides sticky thread

For the DAEMON Tools Lite & ImgBurn parts you can just skip those and use ISObuster instead if you like either way works as it happens

The Ape files from the link you gave us

As for the hows, thats what the guide is there for

P.S. all versions of DooM run just fine with ePSXe

My quick n dirty instructions for ISO buster (free use only version is all that is required, do not buy it)

It worked! Mostly...: this demo (Doom demo) is supposed to have music (really scary music), but there's none. Is this not fixable?

just use the internal sound plugin the music plays just fine

depending on the other plugins make sure cdda and xa are both on in the sound setting, the default internal sound plugin has no options so don't bother looking lol

EDIT "ePSXe SPU core X.X.X." X.X.X. is the version of ePSXe used is the only Sound plugin that enables the BGM for DooM

Oh, OK, I'll try that. Thanks very much again

EDIT: Hmm, when I use that, the framerate drops incredibly. Is that normal?

Nope, I suppose it depends on the other plugins used though

I am just using the software plugin for video though on very basic settings, the game runs perfect, it also looks just fine, it is not a full 3D game to start with, if you like though you can filter in the software plugin

HQ2x or HQ3x stretched should look very nice with this game

HQ2X stretched with PEOp'S soft video plugin is shown in the attached

    Hm, time to try that

EDIT: That didn't seem to do it. Damn, lol, it's like when one problem is fixed, another springs in.

In the sound config, there are 2 sub-sections, which read "Select/Config Main Video Plugin" and "Config Soft Video Plugin". The first section is set to Peops Soft Plugin (that's the only one that's software-mode related) and I also configured the Soft Video Plugin for the second section. As for my CPU, it's like "faint of heart", if you catch my drift

You really must just have low system specs, care to share them?

My system is very basic but I don't emulate much, usually only for testing ePSXe runs just fine though with limited settings

It's an HP laptop G61 series
    OS Win7 64bit
CPU Pentium Dual Core 2.10 Ghz
    RAM 4GB
GPU Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series chip set (It's pathetic really)
    SPU HD audio

The game runs smoothly for me even with the filters on, though the HQ2X filter will slow some machines down so try without it, with a simple stretch (1:1 will not work with all games as some games use half sized images that are stretched to fill the screen)

Lolz all that messing for the one level the Gauntlet, that's it complete after that, returns back to the demo menu
