I think "beat" is a bit light. Sony just gang-raped MS and left it bloody behind a dumpster.

My only disappointment, which seems to be the general consensus everywhere, is that online multiplayer requires Plus. Not that I have any intentions of cancelling Plus anytime soon, I was just naively hoping that we weren't moving towards that generation of console play, where we keep having to throw money at them just to play games.

Not that I ever play multiplayer anyway.

Also, when Tretton said that used games would continue to be allowed the exact same way they are now, that we aren't going to be throttled with always-online DRM, that they aren't going to check for an Internet connection while playing SP games, and that they would continue to allow game sharing, a little piece of me released how perverse it is when the crowd cheered so loudly. As consumers, the video game industry has been shitting all over us recently, and when having things stay pretty much the exact same as they are now is cause for celebration, something is seriously wrong.

I was a tiny bit tentative about picking up a PS4 at or near launch. This just convinced me. If you continue to listen to your customers the way you are right now Sony, you can have all of my money.

    Playstation - 4
X-box - None. oh god that was horrible

In my defense, when I posted that they had just wrapped up the little boxing match they had going and landed a decisive knockout right around the "no super intrusive DRM shenanigans" bit.

But then it just kept going.

It was horrible. It was like watching a bear maul a quadruple amputee.

Yeah, pretty much my thoughts. I'll (probably) be holding off on the PS4, but when the time comes for me to have to upgrade my gaming setup I'm happy to know there's a non-PC option out there which doesn't require absurd amounts of red tape between me and my legally purchased ~30 to 60 dollar games. The PS+ thing is a potential let down, but they aren't making you pay for the service they launched all those years ago, it's instead grown into a fairly functional and impressive setup. And if PS+ keeps putting sweet sale and IGC related icing on the pay-for-online cake, I consider this a *small* price to pay, no matter how begrudgingly I might be paying for something that was (and should be) free. At this point there's not much reason to not already have plus. The only possible difference is that I'm going to have to shove it on my main account instead of splitting it with someone. No huge loss.

Plus it's one flat rate across 3 systems. If nothing else it'll give me an excuse to fire up the PS3 once in a while and maybe sink some money into a Vita at some point to enjoy the back catalog of IGC I'll accumulate in the coming months/years.

    Also, ha!

This. The video game industry I loved was the one that kept throwing innovation and technology at you, I remember when almost all AAA games had something new to offer. This was obliterated is Gen7, and doesn't seem to come back in Gen8. But since they've improved from "making everything worse" to "making things stay the same", the just might improve to "improve something" in Gen9.

Good new but I can't help but be cautious. ME was ridiculously short and has been idealized over the years. This prequel? needs a ton more of additions like they did with Assassin's Creed II so it's just another good looking game. I hope they add something more to do other than the (boring for me) time trials.

Sad but true, but I wouldn't say the whole industry is to be blamed, not every company is doing things wrong. I'd say it's a certain company that's trying to radically change what we used to have for years now, and they are having some success.. which is even more sad.

I thought the length of the first game was pretty good. But the way it ended was unacceptable. I hate cliffhangers. Time trials doesn't do much for me either but speed running the actual levels were a ton of fun! But I can see your point and kinda agree.

That said, the fake Kaz Hirai twitter account is still hilarious!

While certain companies started it, almost everyone else followed. I agree that they need to in order to survive. It's mostly consumer's fault for putting up with their BS IMO.

Kingdom Hearts 3. That is all.

But seriously, some awesome stuff coming out of E3 this year, definitely gonna pick up a PS4 as soon as any launch bugs are ironed out. Also, kinda disappointed that there's been no news of the new Banjo Kazooie yet, but since it's an Xbone title I don't suppose it really matters.

So how bout that Nintendo conference??

Retro studios making a new Dk game? What happened to Metroid? And why do all their games for the Wii U just look like upscaled 3DS titles? Graphics aren't everything, but things certainly look a bit dull....

Bayonetta is still wrapped under a shroud of mystery, no new Zelda announcement (WW HD and 3DS LttP don't count). The third party line up looks pretty abysmal, but I do see AC IV wormed it's way on there

I bet Ninty purists are having a fit right now - I kept hearing how Ninty will release all these huge games this Holiday season to compete with Sony and company, but I'm not seeing a damn thing....
