The fansubbing group I was part of liked literal translations, so I had to make compromises to suit their policies quite often. Was probably good practice if I want to go into professional translation someday, being that you'd have to learn to compromise with clients on various things, but it could be really frustrating at times when that's not my style at all, and I'm actually pretty much in agreement with you. :'D

Oh I know it's true, I just could not possibly agree with it more. It's like, infinite agreement or something.

I'll have a look at it in the morning.

And it's not like onii-chan can't be translated. Even if "brother" doesn't sound quite right (I mean, who addresses his brother as "brother" in this day and age?), you could just go with the character's first name. That's what I consistently do in my translations.

Right-o. I'll prepare supplementary notes on Muramasa terminology in the meantime.

Glad to hear that! I never understood why people translate like that. How did your group have justify literal translations?
