People have, most notably Esperanto, which was designed as a universal second language, and which has very simple and flexible grammar, completely phonetic pronunciation, etc... I definitely agree with and appreciate the concept, even if Esperanto itself wasn't perfect (for one thing, the guy who created it only had deep knowledge of about five languages, all European, and it has a major bias towards speakers of European languages).

This has been done too, with the international phonetic alphabet, which is used in linguistics and suchlike.

The trouble with making up languages is that compared to a real language, they have none of the culture, none of the history, none of the beauty, none of the wealth of art in the language... They're cold, impersonal, and... well... machine-like. Of course with continued and widespread use, they'd eventually develop all of that. But they'd also develop the quirks and illogical points of any natural language. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) humans can't be like machines and use a completely logical, organised language for very long.

There's also a system called "Pasporta Servo" where Esperanto speakers around the world offer to let travelling Esperanto speakers who are visiting their country stay with them for free. So if you speak it well and don't mind staying with strangers, you can get free accommodation in lots of places.

Not really, I'm an amateur. I know lots of people who know way more about languages than me, and who speak lots of them fluently to boot. But foreign languages are definitely where my main interests lie.

The Dutch settlers colonised South Africa about 350 years ago and they brought the language which has not changed too much.

Yeaaaaaaaaaah. It's a fair bit different. I was quite fluent in France French and it was very tricky talking to French Canadians.

C'mon, otaku girls are extremely common. Anime is very much mainstream these days. I personally steer clear of them, just not into the whole "neko is kawaii desu yaoi is hawt!!11" sort of people...

When I was out shoppunz today I ran into a fat chick reading Familiar Of Zero.

Also, I might be an otaku, but at the same time I'm really not. I really hate the term, honestly, and want to distance myself from all the "creepy basement dweller" stereotypes. I might go all HNNNNG after looking at some catgirl or something similar, but I'm... I dunno, I'm not crazy about it. It's just an interest, it's not my entire life.

I don't even watch anime that much, actually. Gaming will always be my #1 passion.
