What if Bioware goes out of business before that can happen ?

Yeah, and we'll all be playing games at light speed, in our heads.

So, I lost my FF8 save. I was right at the start of the second disk, is it worth starting all over to play through the rest?

Won't be the same though. I had all of the junction system set up, and I made a point to collect just about every item possible.

Yes, much! It should only take you about 15 hours to get there again, also, a replay of disc one helps with things you missed.
Get Leviathan? Carbuncle? Fully explore those sewers?
Also, by that point, you should have tried to gather all of the items required for the Lionheart, Squall's ultimate weapon.

Also, by that time, you should have the GF's spells to make Curaga from items, and junction it to health. 4000HP before your Seed exam!

I was going to play it, I didn't want to take the time to download it though.

Gameplay looks and sounds good. I don't care if its story is shit/no towns to explore.

I want to kick the shit out of monsters and nothing else.

I was using a guide to get everything, so yeah lol.

Holy dick! what?? That's insane. I didn't do that, I did junction water to strength or attack or whatever though, which turned my characters into unstoppable rape monsters.
