I wouldn't say "hate it." I played it a fair bit when I was a kid. But I played the same games over and over again, because I found it extremely hard to find anything really worthwhile playing.
Nowadays, however, I find myself ignoring it. And even with the games that I played for the Gameboy (I owned a GBC, GBA and currently own a DS), I don't have any nostalgic connection to it at all. Nothing really "wowed" me as a "everyone must play this" kind of game.

I'm at the end of the 2nd dungeon and when the screen changes after stepping into the portal with the little deku kid thing after beating the boss it just freezes with a grey screen. Fuck.

Yeah... there's absolutely no reason to ever play a GB/GBC port of an NES game. NES version will definitely be superior. Unless you're playing it for badass points, because the controls or other minor changes make it harder.

That said, a few of the GB/GBC exclusives are interesting. Like the first game in the Mana series (which was released here as... Final Fantasy Adventure, I think?).
