So, in the winter, the latch on my back door shifts just enough with the cold temperatures to get stuck when you turn the knob, preventing the door from closing properly unless you take a moment to fix it. My boyfriend is the only one who uses the back door with any sort of frequency, and he fails to shut it all the way about 99% of the time. If it's windy outside, as it is now, and the door isn't shut, it blows open a tiny bit. And since the door is made of glass and there's light on in here, it's impossible to see anything through it without being very close.
I finally decided to turn Amnesia off for the night, after reaching a fairly good stopping point and realizing that I was simply a bit fatigued from playing. Just before stopping, I picked up an item, heard the characteristic "Graaaaaawwh" sound, and ran to hide. I hid in a corner on one side of the room, thinking the monster was on the other side, and crouched behind a small wall. Close by was a door. It wasn't until there was already a large hole in the middle of this door that I realized the monster was coming from the
other side, forcing me to retreat to the other end of the room, where there were multiple sources of light and no way out. Somehow, either the thing didn't see me or it had a very short attention span and grew bored before it reached my corner. Safe and sound, I hit "save and exit."
Off to the kitchen to wash my hands and get a drink of tea. I'm minding my own business, thinking how the game had begun to trade in "genuinely creepy" for "predictable and annoying." Suddenly, the door blows open a bit, with the typical sound of the wood scraping against its frame. I jump. Then, after recovering and realizing that my boyfriend didn't see my response, I proceed to fuss at him for the millionth time for failing to close the door.
Embarrassing moment avoided.
