Default Need help on how to reset a ROM in MAME

I just need to find out how I can reset a Rom's data so that it could be like brand new. I don't know if I should delete the Rom in the process.
It would be great if anyone could give me an answer. Thanks.

Uh..........do you mean the save data?

Roms do not get written to, the save data is stored separately.

    Rom stands for "Read-Only-Memory"

Alright, how can I get rid of the save data? Do I need to find it in the ROM's folder?

    Yup, what system? Arcade?

Never messed with a arcade games save data but a console should have either a memory card file or battery save file.

    MAME or FBA?

I'm honestly having a hard time trying to figure this one out since I never bothered.

MAME. I'm sorry if I'm not giving enough details.

do you mean data like high scores or something? i know MAME doesn't save data like a console would. with an emulator like kega fusion it'd have any of 3 files for save data (.srm, .gs0 (this is save states i think), and .pat (iirc this is for like game genie/action replay/etc. codes you've used for the game in question.). to my knowledge MAME doesn't do anything like that. if you're talking about in-game data such as high scores then i don't know. if you're talking about something like the control configuration stuff then that can be found in the CFG folder.

aside from that all i can think of is to simply hit escape and close the ROM in question then relaunch it. i think that resets everything but i'm not 100% sure.

Believe it or not, but I actually deleted the progress. It was not necessary to go to the files.
