Have any of you guys been following the IDF this year? A lot of cool stuff showed up there like Viewsonics new 200dpi monitor (3240x2480 resolution or something). That is a ton of freaking pixels! It will sell for $8000. Intel also revealed more about the 3ghz P4 later this year and the 3.6ghz P4 next year. In fact, I have already read through many reviews and benchmarks for the processors and they operate very well. Intel also demonstrated Hyperthreading in P4 and the P5 processors. It was a good show all-in-all.

Intel closed the show with a speech from an exec discussing the future of the company. As many of you know, they are far in to work on their new 500million transistor processor and said they hope to work on a 1billion transistor pro soon. One guy also mentioned that Intel expects to have a 10billion transistor processor by 2010! I think they will reach that level sooner than that though.

By the way, what do you guys think of PCI Express? Do you think it will become the new standard for I/O by 2004 or at all?

I get the feeling AMD will push intel to 4Ghz this year itself since the chipmakers are having stiff competition, and if again AMD makes it to 3Ghz before Intel, it will make Intel even more determined to release 4Ghz before end of 2002. It's possible, and it's happened before, 3.6Ghz.. definitely within this year! AMD shall push, so shall Intel, and we shall benefit.. oh what a beautiful world!

The 3.6ghz is set for June but it is possible. AMD is releasing the 3200 so that might prompt Intel to get the 3.6ghz out there. I think it is amazing that the P4 can reach those clock frequencies unaided by the FSB frequency. It is too bad the multiplier is so high though. That is one thing AMD is working against. Do you think the 3.6ghz will adopt a 166mhz FSB? I think it is scheduled for 133mhz right now, we will see though. Oh yeah, Intel officially announced support of DDR333 and Rambus1066! Good news. All of this is great for us but it is also difficult to keep up with. DDR-II will kick Rambus' ass next year so it is difficult to decide on the 850 chipset when it will not be the best for long. Money does not grow on trees and we always want the best. That means updating or altering your system entirely every 6 months!

Yeah. You buy a "Stat of the art" 2Ghz PC and the next day it State of the Junk since 3Ghz came out :p. Well, atleast we're safe since applications don't demand that sort of resources, nor do games, most games don't even ask for above 750Mhz to run decently, so its alright I guess. That stuff is only good for video encoding and ray tracing.

Yeah I know it is unneeded, but don't you like me feel like you always need the best? I definitely feel that. I feel overjoyed when reading up on a new processor, core logic, mainboard from my favorite companies, new video cards, etc. Just about every component I attempt to stay informed on. I know you would update everything every six months if you had the money MasJ.

A job like that would be great but I would much rather be the guy leading the team working on the newest processors. A job at Intel or IBM would be a dream. Maybe even ATI and nvidia.

I think for that, you'll have to be something special as far as your qualifications are concerned, if you need a trained assasin to kill the current head of department, I'm available at 2.25% discount :sunglasse

amd's troughbred is such little plastic piece of shit, and if they don't do something about it, intel is gonna crush them into lil' tinny pieces i mean, they barely hitted 2ghz, and intel will hit 3 in two months...amd's diehard fans wistled out like "oh maybe the new athlon didnt do much, but clawhammer is gonna rock!". well it aint...it got rescheduled again. and it will be rescheduled again.

Still, it's to AMD's credit that intel is rolling our cpu's so quickly, otherwise i doubt we'd have hit 2Ghz already.

At least by the end of this year when I buy my new computer... the computers available will be way better than the ones available now...

The Prescott core and 1mb L3 cache will allow the P4 to easily break the 4ghz barrier soon too. If Clawhammer keeps getting rescheduled, Intel will easily be able to compete with it for market share with its latest P4 next year.

mate, if you get latest p4 on 2.8, with good mainboard you can get it up to 4 gigahertz without any special cooling system. with his normal box fan+heatsink cpu will work on 50-60 (C). imagine now what you can do with water cooling ...

REALLY!? Oh boy! it will go really fast and I wouldn't have to upgrade my pc for...6 months? Moore's Law is dead, gannon...but the speed is really nice, with hyperthreading enabled, AMD will bite the dust big time...unless they come out with something faster...
