Yup, you need to give Retroarch a try Grouch seriously, its really going somewhere and has so much shit planned its crazy.

It uses Mednafen PSX as the PSX core for OSes and its pretty much like the real deal , think BSNES but for Playstation and wayyyyy less heavy on the CPU,

Did I mention it runs everything perfectly that epsxe does not? ya thats important.
so is retroarch a ps1 emu like epsxe? never tried bsnes I always used Zsnes or higan.

It's basically a front end for multiple emulators not an emulator in of itself.

Retroarch is a little beyond the typical frontend you are familiar with .

It uses libretro cores for kinda whatever, not just emulation .

RA gives you so much control its scary, if you want it set up the way you want it Grouch let me know, your jaw will be on the floor in amazement soon enough ,

Its not complicated to set up if you do it right, http://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/

pick your system and grab the archive on the bottom that says latest_RetroArch_full and we will go from there.
