I'm not old enough to remember that program personally, but growing up we all used the word lurgi in school to refer humorously to any generic cold or illness anyone got. Never really asked myself at the time where the word might have come from, but interesting to know.

I know it because it was on the radio when I was young, it was actually Dad that got me listening to it. It was on ABC radio (which did have some old BBC radio serials), there were also serialised versions of Star Wars, Empire and Return of the Jedi (which were much longer than the movies, 13 or so parts each iirc).

The Goon Show is really good stuff though, I had taped everything when I was young (audio tapes) but more recently I acquired most if not all of the episodes on CD.
If you love Monty Python and that sort of crazy British humour you'll like it.
