    Default Best retro clone console?

I'm look for a combo system. Preferably one that at least has support for NES, SNES & Genesis. That's all I really care about. Basically, I'm looking for something similar to the Retron 5. That has everything I want; supported consoles, and emulator features like save states & upscaled graphics. My only problem is that it doesn't seem to support flash carts like the Powerpak. So, that's what I need, all that PLUS support for flash carts. Can anyone lead me to something like that?

I think the problem is you want a device that does everything.
Retron 5 iirc has an OS and runs emulators, so that would be why flash carts don't work.

I think everdrives work on Super Retro Trio. I don't think NES PowerPak works.

If you want emulator features then use emulators on PC.

This. If you just want to run NES/SNES/Genesis you can just get some old free Pentium 2 and hook it up to your TV. No need to fuss with buggy knockoff consoles. Or if you really want the authentic console experience, get the real consoles... That's not that expensive if you aren't even buying games.
*PSA* Wii Redump collector's can now unscrub ISO files. So scrubbed games can now be verified. You can find the program to do this here

Yeah all the clone consoles have issues of one sort or another anyway.

Personally I would stick to original hardware + flash carts...and then like Ragnar said; emulators on a PC setup.

There is a workaround for getting roms to work on the Retron 5, it's towards the end of this thread.

You have to root the console?

I don't think so. There's something about patching the roms and having a cart in the system for the type of rom you want to play. i.e. SNES cart in slot to play SNES roms.

Jesus Christ, okay.....This might be a bit too technical for me. I've seen some stuff about the Ouya being a good place for emulation. Not just for NES/SNES & Genesis, but stuff like Nintendo 64 and Neo Geo even. It seems to have everything I want, and from what I understand, you can just download the emulators & ROMs from the internet and connect them to the Ouya from a flashdrive. Sounds like a god damn heaven machine to me. Anyone familiar with the Ouya? Do I have this right, should I go buy this thing right this second?

I think Ouya is Android too. So any limitations for emulators on Android would still be there.

I watched a video of a guy talking about Ouya emulation, he was able to play all the games just fine. He just downloaded the emulators & ROMs online and installed it to the Ouya via flashdrive. Then the Ouya plugs into the TV with HDMI, and you can play away! You don't even need to have the Ouya itself connected to the internet to play, at least according to that guy's video. It sounds like everything I'm looking for.

Seems you would be just as good off if you hooked your PC up to the TV and sound system and using a controller converter and wireless keyboard and mouse
THE BEST METHOD to run PSX games (and everything else for that matter) is via Retroarch - http://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/
If you have any questions on how to set it up on Windows please feel free to ask, its very easy.

Perhaps I would be, but that's my other problem, my TV in my room and my computer I use are on different floors. That's another thing I need; internet and games to be as separate as possible. Plus, I hate playing games like that on a keyboard.

What a controller converter is for , use whatever console controller you want on your PC since most actual PC controllers are kinda.........bad.

Well some are pretty decent like the Buffalo Super Famicom style USB controller or a actual 360 controller.

I don't think those handheld devices are worth what they cost, but that's just my opinion.

AFAIK Ouya isn't a straight Android, it needs Ouya ports of Android stuff.

Instead of buying an Ouya, just get a cheap Android with a HDMI output. My phone has one, I've hooked it up to my HDTV for a laugh and it worked fine. AFAIK you can tether a PS3 controller to a Android, and the Ouya controller is shit.

Although still, getting a garbage PC and sticking in a worthless graphics card with HDMI ports is a far better idea.
