I have never missed an exotic drop since the third week the game was out, and that is across my 3 characters.

I've barely even done the Raid... I've done quite a few strikes though. I don't really know what an exotic drop is, either sadly enough. I do however have an Exotic Bounty for Thorn I need to finish. Although it's such a pain.

Exotic drops can occur after a Nightfall strike (once a week per character)
There are two spots in the VoG where you can get an exotic, one is a chest right before the gorgons, the other is from Atheon.
Two spots in Crota's End, one is now (they changed this from the first chest of the raid) when you kill the deathsinger, the other is from killing Crota. (Both raids you can only get the potential of the drop once a week as well).
Exotics also have an EXTREMELY low drop rate, I'm talking like .01% from Crucible games and Vanguard Roc/Tiger strikes. (Unsure about the tiger strikes).

Then there are 5 exotic guns you can only get from their respective bounty.
Thorn (Handcannon)
Super Good Advice (Heavy Machine Gun)
Bad Juju (Pulse Rifle)
Invective (Shotgun)
Pocket Infinity (Fusion Rifle)

To get the bounties all you have to do is do other bounties and it will eventually give you a choice of 3 to pick from. I find great success in getting the bounties if you turn in like 5+ at once.

Yeah I normally get bounties from two days and then complete them then turn them in. I haven't done a Nightfall, but might now that I'm level 30. Or at least attempt.

Keep in mind the rate of drop from the nightfall/raid is like probably 20% at max based on my experience.
