Default snes emulator for 64-bit PC

    Hello

terribly sorry if ive missed a post for this. been spending some minutes browsing the topics. and couldnt find one to help me. I may very well have become blind though.

I´ve gotten myself a full pack of the Final Fantasy games. Been looking around emuparadise for see what kinda emulator i need. I know that some of the games are for the old Snes system and some are for PS2. i´m sitting on a 64-bit PC system and i could really use some help determining which emulator to use for both Snes and PS2 games.

I am a total and utter rookie at this. so please help me out

    regards

    ME!

    You are on windows correct?

    I have a few sugestions,

    ZSNES - http://fusoya.eludevisibility.org/emulator/zsnes8.html (best build)

    SNES9x - http://www.s9x-w32.de/dl/testbuilds/ (latest builds)

Retroarch - http://www.libretro.com/ (complicated multi system emulator, give it a try if you feel like exploring)

it does not matter if you use a 32 or 64 bit ver of a emu on a 64 bit windows machine, it will work the same.

Edit: forgot to mention for you to go here - http://www.romhacking.net/

All kinds of Hacks and Translations there, many hacks that fix various game bugs too, that FF6 translation on the front page is top notch, makes FF6 the way it was meant to be played.

The first 6 games have been rereleased a whole bunch of times sometimes with extra stuff like fmvs or an extra dungeon or whatever but I always played the originals.

FF 1,2,3 are NES games. Nesten is a good emulator. Also released on PlayStation 1 and I think all the portable systems since then like PSP and GBA.

FF 4,5,6 are SNES games. ZSNES and SNES9X are probably the top SNES emulators.

Keep in mind though that only certain ones were released in North America so you will need translated Roms for those. I think FF 2,3,5 were Jap only but it's easy to look that up. Same goes for the rereleases as above for the SNES games.

FF 7,8,9 are PSX (PlayStation 1) games and I've never had a problem playing all three on EPSXE. Just may take a bit to configure it.

FF 10, 10-2 and 12 are for PS2 and the only option for those are PCSX2. It takes a decent computer to run it though especially for FF 12 which is much more graphically intense than 10. FF 11 was online only but there is a PC work around and custom server I think still in use but that's a tale for another time..

If you have other non numbered FF games in that pack like Mystic Quest (SNES) or FF tactics (PSX and PSP) let us know.

    SNES Emulators by your OS.

ZSNES has the ability to set Turbo buttons, but I've been using SNES9x. I'm on a 64-bit system, too. I don't remember exactly why I'm using SNES9x over ZSNES, but I think it's because SNES9x can set diagonals which works better with my controller.

    PS2 Emulators by your OS.

I use PCSX2. I had to install it somewhere other than Program Files, and run it as administrator for it to work. But Kingdom Hearts works fine on
    AMD A8-3870 APU (4 CPUs) 3.0GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 v2 with 4049 Approx. Total Memory

For Playstation games I suggest you use Retroarch, works better and less hassle than epsxe.

Check my previous post for the link.

Here is the Retroarch ready PSX Bios files, put them in the Retroarch System folder,

    Retroarch PSX Bios.7z

You extract the bios files into the retroarch system folder.

You have various options for a controller on your PC, you can get a PC designed pad or get a converter.

What controller do you own or what type are you wanting?

VLC is as annoying as SNES9x, it sets file associations to it and and you need a program to kill the association.

Well that really has no effect on retroarch, where did you get retroarch? the official site?

you may need to get the cores pack and put the cores into the proper folder in the retroarch folder, the info folder to be exact.

PS3 controllers will plug into a pc and install drivers, so will xbox 360 wired controller. if you have a controller without a usb then you will need an adapter. And you will probably need xpadder or joy2key to get the L2/R2 or LT/RT to work right. Normally they work as an axis so pressing them both together cancels the first one and doesn't register the other. it's like -100 and +100, so when you press both it is 0.

Well for a PSX/PS2 controller adaptor I recommend this,

    http://www.amazon.com/Dual-Controlle...ller+converter

I own it and its great, plug n play, or if you want rumble you will need to install the driver.
