Pads ... I only use the official EU 1st version.. i.e. the one I got with it, a bit strange to use going from PS3/ & 4 pads back to an old digital pad

I use a Action Replay 4M Plus cart myself but I know there are tons of variants of it

Not 100% on exact games (all of my games are patched anyway and did not fancy re-burning them all without patches just for testing) but can name one because I ended up guiding through the process to get a game working for another user, the game was Alien Trilogy just a page or so back

It is a good one to test with if you want to try patching it yourself or try without and with patching, just remember to rebuild the sector fields with CD-Mage before burning after the Hex edits

Out of the many games I've tried, only one i wasn't able to get working was Wipeout. Classic futuristic racing game. It is most well-known for it's PSX release but, it got a Saturn release too and i played it extensively back in the day.

Other than that, everything else has worked perfect.

Did you try patching Wipeout? (Not a game I tested)

I'm back. So out of the 70 something games i tried:

    Mortal Kombat 2
    Street Fighter Zero 3
    Wipeout 1
Dungeons & Dragons Tower of Doom
(or was it Shadow over Mysteria? I forget)

^^ None work. Overall, i'm very satisfied with the Pseudo-Saturn. Fantastic compatibility, too bad it does NOT work with all Saturn models. My Japanese grey model 1 Saturn was hopelessly unable to use it, so beware of that. And out of these games mentioned, i have the PSX versions of some and i'm fine with that. Too lazy to figure out how to "patch" them (SF Zero 3 story dialog is japanese only with Saturn release. I'll stick with the excellent U.S PSX port of Alpha 3).

I've read on some boards about fans being afraid to play CD-Rs on their Saturn for fear of it wearing out the drive 10x faster or something. So far my U.S Saturn plays everything like a champ with zero signs of difficulty reading discs. The Saturn drive is more modern than older CD-based game systems like, the Sega CD.

And speaking of which, a few years ago i actually scored a near-mint in box U.S release Sega CD model 2. It too also plays CD-Rs to perfection with no problems and, that add-on predates retail CD-Rs by a mile. So i think the Saturn's more advanced laser will be just fine, as with normal game discs. Just chock that up to gamer paranoia.

Edit: Soukyugurentai, a 2D shooter. Works but has slight graphical glitches at times.

A couple of those games do require extra ram to run and normally came with a ram cart

So they may work with a 4Meg ram cart like the Action Replay Plus 4M

There is a newer version out there that I have not gotten round to grabbing myself

Wipeout is maybe one I should test myself though using the Pseudo patch that for some reason I am not sure about fixes a couple of games

P.P.S. there also may be a new mod in the near future that replaces the CD-Rom drive totally via the back port (the port normally used for Video CD playback enabling)

Not a ram cart issue i think. The other notable games that require 4MB Ram, like X-Men Vs StreetFighter and Marvel SuperHeroes Vs StreetFighter, and Final Fight Revenge, run perfect. Then there's Marvel Superheroes, which has optional use of the 1MB cart(not a substantial improvement, just additional animations) also works fine.

A newer version? of Pseudo Saturn?

I think that back-port VCD slot mod would be a great idea! A module w/SD card slot pluggin into the back and loading that way, would be cool. Also what do you know of the Rhea "virtual" drive hack? Where the CD-Rom drive is removed and replaced with a SD-card reader essentially. Is that mod easy to do and does it work well with most games?
