Default New To Mame, Having Trouble With Bios Roms

Hi guys, sorry to be that noob that doesn't know anything. I've recently downloaded MAME 0.153 and I had a hard time initially getting games to run. I figured out how to download CHDs and ROMS and where to put them successfully after some trial and error. The problem I'm currently having is that I can't get a single ROM that uses a BIOS to run in MAME. I have googled around for the past two days lurking every last bit of information I could find. I have been putting both the zipped ROM and the zipped BIOS in the ROMS folder with the rest of my working roms but no luck. I am currently using the version of mame that doesn't have the command line and I am unaware of how to audit the roms to properly identify the problem and I'm intimidated by that tricky program that can help identify the issue. Any help would be much appreciated. Sorry if this is a repost and sorry for being that one noob. Thanks.

Just for the ease of use/extra nice features, give Mame Plus or Mame PPK a try,

are you leaving the Bios zipped in the Roms directory?

That is where they are supposed to be.

Yeah I kept them zipped and placed them in the roms folder and when necessary I had the CHD file(s) in their correct places too. Is it something to do with the ROM and bios versions? I obtained them all from emu paradise so I assumed they were all correct versions and should work with the latest MAME 0.153. I'll check out MAME plus too. Thanks for the quick reply.

In mame plus just right click on the game in question and select Audit to see what is missing from the rom.

If need be il send you the proper files that you are missing

I can run the MAME plus application that shows the Roms and you can click them to run them but when I try to run mamepui (the colored icon), it gives me the windows error "Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator with GUI has encountered a problem and needs to close. we are sorry for the inconvenience" and in the mame that will open (black and white icon) i cannot right click anything.

    Give that a try?

also do you have all the Directx, Microsoft visual runtimes installed?

Im not sure what that problem could be.

The second link worked, although after clicking to open the app it takes a minute or so before it appears on the screen. I was able to point it to where my roms are located but for many of the games I want it says "this game doesnt work, there is nothing you can do to fix this problem except for wait for developers....etc." But the ROMS are available online. Is it merely suggesting they aren't yet compatible with 0.153? some games for example are time crisis 3 and house of the dead 2.

If a game is marked as Red its unplayable until the devs feel like improving the emulation, if its green its Good.

Many games will be Red, Its mainly used for 2D games, 3D games if they run, run like badly .

Awesome, I'm still using the regular version of mame but having the mameui list as a resource has been extremely helpful, Thanks Gobby. I'm still having some other issues I'm trying to workout that I have posted in another thread. Please let me know if you have any advice on those as well. Thank you for your time.
