    FACT-it'll never happen!
FACTs-the new liberal BC (British Columbia) gov just nixed a law made by the previouse gov of that province....the old law was a mandatory rating system for games. the new gov got rid of it because there was not conclusive link between violent games and violent kids. canada is very liberal with things like tv, movies and games. on the CBC (a channel owned by the federal gov)
showed a movie that had full view of a woman giving oral sex to a guy. and that station is ownd by the feds....and our Prime Minister is a liberal. there is no way that games will be banned in canada. video games are a huge part of canadian retail, one of the largest growing demogreaphics of retail. the gov will not do anything to lose that income from the taxes on those games.
in canada, there has been no conclusive review or study linking explicit/violent games, movies or tv shows to negative actions in the citizense of this country FACT!
dont worry fellow canuckleheads, we'll be playing all those great games like resident evil, metal gear, power puff gir.... er...nevermind that one, devil may cry 2 and all those other great m rated games. not to mention that Dave Mira XXX game...whooo hooo. lol. nudity in a game, oooooh.....nude bikers, lol......

hey what happens here usually happens there and vice versa.

but this will never happen, cuz it infringes on freedom of expression and all that which are almost identical to the states laws on that front.

also MH you cant do this with one medium and not others, what are they gonna do ban movies and tv yeah right, they've tried this sort of thing before. by the way Matrix Holder I'm talking on the phone with you as i type this,,,, so how's the green gum??????? LOL

i never heard anything about this suposed law, but i can see them placing ratings on all games like they do for movies. it's only a game it's not real, how many times in real life can you be killed and start over? of course it does sound like something chertien would come up with.

Thats OK(not really ok, just a figure of speech) if they ban all of the Mature games in Canada I will hook everyone here up with some American games.. Don't think sending them in the mail is illegal

I doubt such a law will come through. If they can't ban porn movies, all they can do is put a rating on them, I don't think they can do the same for games. Electronic Media laws apply to everything and it's either the movies AND the games, but that won't happen since their leaders would miss the BF's then

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?! Last i heard about Canada hating adult games was back when wal-mart started checking for ID for Mature games. We dont even have a freakin adult game out here. we have M but not A . Anywayz I doubt it'll happen. I'll be forced to go out and hunt those responsible down with my gigantic gong .

Even if it does pass (You're probably right though MasJ) isn't there a way to petition to have the games brought back? Not sure how Canadian government works so excuse me if I sound like an ass..Oh and another quick question; does canada have the ESRB rating system like we do here in the US?

we have the same rating system on games, but movies and tv shows ratings are not as tough as the usa ratings.
a movie that gets an NC-17 rating in the states would get an R rating up here. its cool.
the game ratings are already on the boxes when they are shipped from the USA or where ever that game comes from.
it just comes with that damn shrink wrap on it that has the french instructions in it...on the back so you cant read the back of the box. lol. but again, baning mature or adult games will never happen in canada.
and to zaladane, it was very green. looks like playdooh green, lol.

This is just a rumor...and I dont believe it. It aint true, but that is what I want to believe. But, this explicit game banning thing happenes, I will freak. All of todays games are pretty violent. (Even some sports games for crying out loud).

What the **** do they think banning these games will even acomplish? Absolutely nothing, thats what! Are our "violent" games influencing kids? Maybe. But it is not the games fault. If a kid is gonna shoot another kid cuz of what he seen in Metal Gear Solid, than that kid wasnt raised proper!

Oh, and by the way all you Canadians in the boards....this is NOT gonna happen. Cuz it wont accomplish anything.

Oh, and by the way.........CANADA ROCKS!!!!!

LoL, it'll NEVER happen. What about all those terminator and rambo movies, children don't learn killing and stuff there ?? Oh come on, and they learn it from games ? Thats bullshit.
Other than that, they couldn't even ban adult games, just give them a rating, because everyone is entitled to choice, thats what democracy is all about!!

I doubt they would do that. I watch CityTV all the time and they show uncut shit of everything. It's wonderful, in some aspects, the freedom behind some television stations. Then there's the TBS Superstation which won't even allow "bitch" to be uttered in a sentence.

They won't do it because it contradicts freedom of speech and all that, and also they tried something like it before, where children under the age of 16 couldn't buy an M rated game. What happened? Parents bought the games for their kids. I'm not sure if this was true for everywhere in Canada, but I remember seeing it on A-Channel in Edmonton a while back.

The fact is, it won't happen. They can discuss it all they want (probably the Alliance party. The Liberals are pretty good about giving the public what they want, but who knows? Chretain has announced his retirement at the end of this term), but it won't happen because, being a democracy, they have to vote, and voting would say No, in the polls. It won't happen.
