Hey guys, so I'm looking to write a new article and I've been thinking about this a LOT lately. But I wanna know why you guys play video games, it could be a simple answer or a long one. I just need your guys' opinions.
Well, I play video games for a myriad of reasons. I mainly play for a story as is with most gamers. Then there's those games where the story fails or is there, but you want to get those elusive digital rewards (for me its trophies. I can't pass up those shiny metals.)
Because they are entertaining?
THE BEST METHOD to run PSX games (and everything else for that matter) is via Retroarch - http://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/
If you have any questions on how to set it up on Windows please feel free to ask, its very easy.
games give me time to myself, I like to kick back and relax now and then, storyline is what I look for in games, like ffX, where you can
get lost in hours of storyline, so I mainly play games when Im not working or when I just dont have anything else to do
To avoid existential thoughts.
Michael Ballack, he scores free-kicks.
He's got black hair, and he's german.
Michael Ballack, trains in paddocks.
in his spare time, HE FARMS HADDOCKS!
Watch me play Super C, guys!!
Honestly one of the main reasons I play games is for fun. Another is the same reason that I program: For the challenges involved, whether it's fighting (and being demolished by ) a difficult boss or even getting a difficult trophy. The sense of accomplishment when you finally achieve your goal is always great in both gaming and programming Of course both the gameplay and game's story should be good for me to fully enjoy the title. If it's the hardest game ever but has crappy gameplay or story, I may not like it even though I'd love the challenge (Then again, I'm one of those weirdos who dislikes a grand total of 2 games (that I can think of right now, anyway) )
To a much lesser extent, I play some games because I'm paid a bit to do reviews from time to time (which people can PM me if they are curious about this part/my writing, since I don't want to link it in public here )

Because I hate people
But for my serious answer, I think it is a great way to pass the time while actually getting a sense of accomplishment or exercising your mind. Most people spend their free time watching tv or movies. Sure I like certain TV shows and have my favorite movies like everybody, but what do they do for you? You spend your time staring at a screen for a half hour to two hours. Games, sure you spend time staring at the screen, but you interact with the story, puzzles, battles, etc that goes on in a game.
fun, challenge, and i guess for some social interaction (for better or worse depending on the genre :/ and community of the games i choose to play) in the case of multiplayer. been playing single player games for around 2 decades now and suffice it to say, i really don't find them quite as fun or challenging unless i turn up the difficulty (if applicable) nowadays. i'd usually prefer multiplayer for a while if bored of all the single player stuff but as far as MMOs go, i tend to hop around on the internet leaving a trail of inactive/deleted accounts if i find a game not to my liking for whatever reason.
still waiting for vr gaming to become great. a headset + gloves and maybe footwear if that'd work, with MMORPGs and/or fighting games for a much more direct means of interaction would be awesome. no more keyboard or gamepad just you and your chosen character actually, i think i remember seeing a sword art online mmo in the works somewhere on that indie db website, that'd be a great example of how good vr could work.
edit:
i live in the USA and tv is honestly 1 of the stupidest things i've ever known about. theres so little intelligent thought put into commercials and most series that i have to mute it the vast majority of the time less i cringe and/or get ticked off at the sheer lvl of overall stupidity of whats ALWAYS on tv. i'd say more but thats off topic enough.
