Default What is your favorite 'pick up and play' game?

And by 'pick up and play' I mean short simple games that may or may not go on forever that you play in short bursts but keep coming back to. Simple, addictive and you need it in your blood stream. You know; the gaming equivalent of getting a quick fix... Any system goes. Retro, modern or mobileshit.

I'll go first then, sorry ladies.

    250px-USA_MP_Front.jpg game-boy-20th-anniversary-celebration-day-1-then-and-now-20090730003800685.gif

Mario's Picross (Other notable games in the same genre: Picross DS, Picross e, Picross e2, Picross e3, Picross 3D)

I absolutely adore nonogram/picross type games. First one I ever played was Mario's Picross, which is why I mention that one in particular, but there's been a flood of decent-to-good picross games released in the last couple of years. And for those who don't know about these games, basically you are making pixelart by looking at and comparing the numbers outside the frame. For example a 1 on the left side followed by another 1 means that somewhere on that row two cells should be filled but there should be at least one empty cell between them. A 2 and a 3 means that two cells and three cells are to be filled somewhere on the row but not next to each other. Yeah I suck at explaining, I know.

So let's hear it! Confess your dirty little secrets!

Consider this topic research for a get-rich-quick scheme...

Tetris, it will always be tetris. Own it for Gameboy (both B&W and DX), DS, 3DS, PS2 and even have it on my mobile!
Always loved that game, even though I'm not a master even after years playing it! I just pick it up and find it hard to stop. It's more of an effective drug than the latest druggie-games for smartphones!

THE BEST METHOD to run PSX games (and everything else for that matter) is via Retroarch - http://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/
If you have any questions on how to set it up on Windows please feel free to ask, its very easy.

It was Super C (which I talk about a little bit in this here funky thread) until, like, four minutes ago. I've always liked to pick it up, try to beat it without dying and once I die beat it anyways. See, I always used to choke at the last level and do something stupid around the place with the last bubbles. Like, miss a jump or get hit by an enemy (very rarely the bubbles themselves). The thing is, I just beat it without dying. ^___________________________^

Think I'm gonna go for a perfect Castlevania run from now on. It takes slightly longer to beat though IIRC.

I admit I've started to type without giving it too much thinking but I'd say it's any match 3 game for me.
So yeah, mobileshit, crushy. You have to create a candy crush clone. Pinecone Crush perhaps?

Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days. Played it on the PSP, poured countless hours in it (400+), and still keep to coming back for short amounts of time. I still haven't killed the Pringer X, after all.
That fact that it is on the portable system that I'm always carry with me only makes things worse. So it really became a" pick up and play" game for me.
I've played first one too, but didn't get really addicted, just finished the main story and some sidequests, plus Edna mode.
I'm playing the third one right now, but I can't waste too much time on it because it's on PS3. So I got only 100+ hours there.

Tetris Attack-my favorite Tetris type game (I never liked regular Tetris as much)
Spot the Game-a fun little checkers style game featuring 7-Up's old mascot fun with 1-3 people
Mega Man 2 and Super Mario Bros 3-what can I say about these awesome games that haven't been said before?
Golden Sun 1 and 2-definitely Pick up and Play, great for long trips, keeps me busy for hours
    Kirby's Adventure and Kirby Squeak Squad-Kirby! :3
DKC Trilogy-before Retro decided to crap all over it, this was one of the best platforming franchises EVER!

I'll probably get sued to heaven and hell for using 'crush'...

You fancy 10000000, Cookie? Another of my all time favorite time wasters. Don't care much about Bejeweled and the likes but 10000000 is like crack!

I see. If war is what they want, you'll sue them for using pinecones Wait

Didn't know it. I see it has RPG elements like the Puzzle Quest games, will have to give it a try

Spelunky (PS3/Vita). I play this game quite frequently actually, and it's perfect for a 10 minute romp.
Honorable mention would be the Metal Slug Collection (PSP). Just like Contra - you can pretty much murder any of the game in under a half hour

Damn, should've chosen Metal Slug too. Love that collection and it's perfect on PSP, and it's even got save states!

Oh! Doom as well. Doesn't matter how I'm feeling, I can always sit down and play a couple hours of Doom.
