Is there a game that features him as the main character? The last Mario game I played (by last I mean latest) is Super Mario Sunshine. I've probably missed out on about 3 or 4 mario games since.

I don't think so. In fact, the only Mario game I can think of that even features him is Mario Tennis and the party games.

Hell, I think it's more of a how much can we "try" to innovate without straying from the classic formula.

I suppose for me Mario has always evolved from the first game (even though the first one I played was super mario bros 2) and then when super mario world came out it was brilliant, I don't think I've played another platformer on the snes that was even close to that game. Then the N64 came out with Super Mario 64 and it was a great 3D game, then it sorted of drifted from there

ahh fair enough. I suppose it would be a gamble doing a game just dedicated to Waluigi. Wario had his classics though so it could work if they found a good enough theme/gimmick for the game.

Well, they could at least put him in it somehow. Maybe as a boss or playable multiplayer character, Idk. It'd be neat to see him in something.

I just feel like there's something severely wrong with us when we can have a 50 page discussion about how many more lines of pixels Game X has on Console Y than its competitors. Did we forget how to have fun at some point?

That's Mario 3D World described to the letter. With the exception of perhaps the quest thing, which I'm not entirely sure what you mean by. If you're talking more open-world like Super Mario 64, then that would be pretty awesome.
