Default A third person stuck after Panzer Dragoon Saga intro in SSF (Resolved again :P).

No matter what I do, I don't seem able to get past the FMV sequence in the first PDS disc. I am dumped straight to the BIOS screen. For the other discs, the same happens but no FMV plays before hand. I'm on Windows 7 x64. I have done the following:

    • I've tried many CD images, including the ones Zorlon uploaded here.
    • I've tried SSF 11a5, 12b3 and 12b4 (NB: Beta 4 puts black horizontal lines in the FMV).
    • I have tried several different BIOS files, and no BIOS file. This seems unrelated.
    • I have used Zorlon's settings file for his images above.
    • I have repaired images using CDmage, although Zorlon's images were fine anyway.
    • I've read through several threads where others have had this problem (mostly on here from the last 60 days).
    • I have used Virtual Clonedrive, WinCDEmu, IMDisk, and Alcohol 52% (which didn't install right - just like always).
      • I have not used Daemon Tools because the EULA seems dodgy. The EULA in the software includes several questionable data collection clauses (discussed here) which are not in the version that's online. It also includes the OpenCandy software - which their reps seem to deny on their own forum.
      • WinCDEmu does not seem to work with SSF on my system.
      • Virtual Clonedrive is the one which lets me play the FMV sequence on disc one.

I wondered if anyone had a working set-up without Daemon Tools, and if someone could help me fix the problems with my set-up? Based on what I've read, it seems unlikely that Daemon Tools is the only tool that works properly with SSF.

    Thanks

Deamon tools lite is safe and has no spyware , I have been using it for years and I thoroughly check my programs of any such material (JDownloader web installer malware ring a bell?)

if you are concerned greatly about your privacy and online security you should be using these free programs,

    Peerblock (MUST HAVE PROGRAM)
Comodo Free Firewall (Best Firewall out there)
Malwarebytes (if you can get PRO version do so)
A good Antivirus (my preferred one is AVG Free)
THE BEST METHOD to run PSX games (and everything else for that matter) is via Retroarch - http://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/
If you have any questions on how to set it up on Windows please feel free to ask, its very easy.

    Use a real console.

That's seems to be the issue for you so that is why it is booting you back into the bios and it is the only thing you are not using that works

I will give you a big hint though the reason it boots back to the bios screen is because only the first track is being read CDDA tracks are required by this game to work, if they are not being read then is takes you back to the bios screen, so if you can get other Virtual drives to read the disc image correctly and emulate the drive correctly for SSF then great, otherwise you will need to get Daemon Tools Lite or do without or just buy the console.

You may have read the other resolved threads but you did not follow instructions

I like using my Saturn myself

P.S. the slip up from D-Tools Lite is in the past, but I do always says watch what you are clicking during the install and make sure you are not installing 3rd party software.

Since the problem is only with this game, I'm going to try burning an image to disc (with the documented method for Saturn games). I'll also try Nero ImageDrive and the CCD format in Virtual CloneDrive. One of them is bound to work. Thanks to Zorlon for the hint.

I don't agree to Daemon Tools EULA, so it isn't an option.

Burning is an option, just use ImgBurn (always burn via the cue sheet), no special settings required except the usual burn at the slowest possible speed for your burning hardware.

Remember I do use use real hardware to play these so I know that using ImgBurn is not going to cause problems with the resulting CD-R

You should be able to use a CD-RW as well as it is a PC that is reading the discs not a real console that does require CD-R

Even the official SSF site mentions Daemon Tools as being used, P.S. even if D-Tools still recorded what iso's you used you are legally allowed to use a backup ISO of any disc you own, they do not know if you do or do not own any iso you run via D-Tools

It is up to you though if you want to use that or not.

The only reason I can see others Virtual CD drives not working is due the CDDA tracks not being read, some Virtual drives might not like the CDDA to be stored outside of the main binary file, so converting to a single binary with the CDDA stored inside it could be another way round it, use ISObuster for that (free version is all that is needed, so once installed, make sure you hit free use only)

My ISObuster guide is at http://www.epforums.org/showthread.php?t=40611 for creating a single bin+cue image with the CDDA tracks stored in the bin image, you still need to use that cue file though for burning and mounting

I would not recommend using software like Magic ISO or any of it's many clones (It's all the same software), these tend to extract disc images when converting that destroys any special CD structure (I this for certain for PSX disc images that use special headers for XA sound type files, that includes STR (they use XA to produce the sound) and XA files and container files)

I like ISOBuster too, but even though it can make a decent image I'd be without a tool to mount it as a virtual drive.

It did get this working though by burning to a real CD, and also by using the trial of Clone CD to make a .ccd file from the real CD. Virtual CloneDrive can mount that.

I quite like this solution, but I would prefer that I didn't need a propriety format. It seems better than .nrg at least since the majority of the data is stored in what looks like a standard .img file, while the .ccd seems to be a propriety equivalent for the .cue file (and it made .cue files as well).

I guess we can call this solved .

Yep and by the way the only difference between img and bin is between tracks one used Hex FF the other uses 00 asides from that img and bin are exactly the same though cue and ccd are completly different but they do the same thing, ccd files are coded and cue files are just text files but function the exact same way.
