My x4 965 is overclocked to 3.8Ghz and AC3 still eats it for breakfast, despite my GPU being more than enough for it.
It hurts when the opposite happens, like for Tomb Raider, fucking GPU draining beast of an unwieldy game. I should get around to overclocking my lappy, only because I'm on it for more time than I am for my beauty.

Hm. I'm no CPU expert but that AMD six core should be fine. The 7850 should be roughly on the same level as my card, which is the GTX 650 Ti Boost 2GB and can run current games well. However, for futureproofing purposes I'd get a card with 2GB VRAM, at least that's what smart people have been saying. I believe the 7850 comes in a 2GB model, no? Either that, or the noticably more powerful 7870 if your budget allows it. If not, 7850 2GB should be fine IMO.

Anyone else feels like Valve should make a Team Fortress 3 sometime? Either that or we set up a server for TF2 and play some good matches.

Really? My old 650 non-Ti ran TR at fantastic framerates (40-60) in 1600x900. Only on Normal quality, but still. I'd imagine the 650 Ti Boost I have now would have no problems with it whatsoever even in 1080p.

I was hitting minuscule screen skips with the graphics on max. It made me mad, because even with the fixes, my screen would have micro-stutters. I think it's because I already had another game on standby while I was playing it, but doubt it considerably.

One of the main reasons to have multi-core processor in a laptop is that smaller wires and distributed processing decrease heat and power use. Power/speed are not the same as a large number of processor cores. That said, I wish I had my gaming PC.

Anyways, I might buy a better Graphics card than that, but not sure what I would choose.

The GTX 560 TI dual is also a decent card.

Benchmarks higher than the GTX 650, but at the cost of sucking more power.

Both cost about the same at ~$110 + shipping.

What type of power are you looking for, because the best of the graphics cards that are in reasonable pricing break your limit for a good pc. How about you extend your range just a bit before going for a gfx card.

Both are alright, but at best, he'd get normal settings on something like Skyrim. But if he wants decent, those are perfect for the job.
