    2nd part:
    Spoiler warning:
#Extraction des pistes audio ++ Audio track Extraction
    ################################################## #####

    Normalement identique a mon fichier
    Exemple pour la Track1
    Datatype : CD AUDIO (2352)
    Start sectors : 0
    End sectors : 9880

    Etc, jusqu'a la piste 23
Pour la piste 24, utiliser les LBA suivant :

    TRACK 24 - AUDIO - Datatype CD Audio 2352
    Start : 234521
    END : 243027
    >> 24R.WAV

#mplayer -quiet -vo null -vc dummy -ao pcm:waveheader:file="24.wav" 24R.WAV

+Thks to verify if this informations is the same as mine
+If not, give yout information from your Cue.file, if yes, you can give the information from yout cue.file or my Information Table
+We use cdrwin for extract each tracks with start and and LBA information
    +Exemple for track1
    Datatype : CD AUDIO (2352)
    Start sectors : 0
    End sectors : 9880

Go it, from track1 to Track23 (NOT 24)
For track 24 use this LBA
    TRACK 24 - AUDIO - Datatype CD Audio 2352
    Start : 234521
    END : 243027
    >> 24R.WAV

Erreur Check and correction of this last WAV
#mplayer -quiet -vo null -vc dummy -ao pcm:waveheader:file="24.wav" 24R.WAV

#Extraction des données + DATA Extraction
    #########################################

+We use Isobuster and track 25 of Session2 for extract all DATA
+Drag and Drop original file of this CD to your Directory on your Hardrive
+It's impossible to RIP the 99 file, so, don't try it
+Copy all File except file 99

    #Extraction de l'IP.BIN + IP.BIN extraction
    ###########################################

Donc rip Select Sectors, LBA START : 254428, LBA END : 254444

    pourquoi pourquoi ?? PARCEQUE !

+With Cdrwin, always on sectors ectraction extract DATA type of boot sector
+The START LBA must be the LBA Start adress of your track 25 (data track)
+Size of Boot sector is 32K, so
+START LBA : 254428 (mine LBA START of track 25)
    +END LBA : 254444 (START LBA + 16)

    +Why 254444 ? because 254428 + 16
    +why 16 ? because 32K (size of IP.BIN) = 32768 octets, 32768 / 2048 = 16
    +Why 2048... Grrrrr, It's the size of 1 LBA
Why Why Why ? BECAUSEEEEE !

You won't be able to dump 99" file from CD - i'll upload it later (only way to dump this file is on real dreacast using DreamShell).

OR you can download all extracted files (with 99 file and dumped wavs) and follow this tutorial:

    Download Links:
Links are hidden from guests. Please register to be able to view these links.
    Spoiler warning:
Create folder C:\STURM and move to this folder file 1st_read.bin and "DATA" folder with sturmwind files (01,02...99 files) and GPL folder.

    Download this:
    Download Links:
Links are hidden from guests. Please register to be able to view these links. And extract to C:\CDRECORD

    Move wavs (01-23) to C:\CDRECORD

    Move IP.BIN to C:\CDRECORD

    Push [WIN]+R and type CMD

    Type
    cd C:\CDRECORD

    Type
    cdrecord -scanbus

You'll need to find SCSI address of your burner, eg my burner is:
    scsibus13:
    13,0,0 1300) 'Optiarc ' 'DVD RW AD-7560S ' 'SB01' Removable CD-ROM

So address of my burner is 13,0,0

Type (make sure you'll write good SCSI address of your burner in "-dev=" switch):
    cdrecord -speed=1 -dev=13,0,0 -multi -audio 01.wav 02.wav 03.wav 04.wav 05.wav 06.wav 07.wav 08.wav 09.wav 10.wav 11.wav 12.wav 13.wav 14.wav 15.wav 16.wav 17.wav 18.wav 19.wav 20.wav 21.wav 22.wav 23.wav

Burning will start, good LOG of this procedure should look like this (Sectors MUST match):

    Track 01: Total bytes read/written: 23240112/23240112 (9881 sectors).

No we must check last session address, so type (again make sure you'll write good SCSI address):
    cdrecord -dev=13,0,0 -msinfo

If everything goes well you should receive this:
0,249267 (must be exact this number)

Now we make ISO with rest of necessary files:
    Type:

    mkisofs -l -C 0,249267 -o sturmwind.iso C:/STURM/

Sturmwind.iso will be created in CDRECORD directory

    Type:
    ipinject IP.BIN sturmwind.iso

Ok, iso is ready to burn (on same disc were wavs were recorded)

Burning will start, good LOG of this procedure should look like this (Sectors MUST match):

    Track 24: Total bytes read/written: 214691840/214691840 (104830 sectors).

Try to boot game on real DC

Do you have a Folder tree and information file for this

List tree-info (in txt file) LBA, Reletive Path

Use ISObuster to create that from the data track, just right click on the data track to see the Folder tree and information file option

That comes in handy if you want to make an iso with the original sort order

    Then use mkisofs -l -sort sorttxt.txt -C 0,249267 -o sturmwind.iso C:/STURM/ instead

almost forgot you can use makesort.exe to convert what ISObuster outputs to a sorttxt.txt file, it does more than just rename that

Hate to say this but they might not be I know the site they came from and seem to be Pa0l0ne's upload, but they worked together on this

Personally I think it would be better to just upload a working disc image in cdi format

I am a little curious as to the 2nd session not being closed and just left open caused by the -multi option in cdrecord for the data track, normally this would be closed, is there a reason for that?

    Yes, those are Pa0l0ne's links.

About not closed session - honestly i don't know if this session must be closed or not BUT after following this guide - game works like a charm on real Dreamcast.

You can't create working CDI/ISO even from copy of this game - still won't be working. I think the easiest way to share working game is to share two isos -one created right after burning audio tracks (before burning second session track24 with data), second iso with only 24 track ("sturmwind.iso" from tutorial). But i'm out of blank cds to test this theory.

I think this game doesn't check LBA position - that's why game still works even without adding parameter "-sort" to mkisofs.

That is the only reason I can see that this could not just be imaged, not so much for emulation as it may not be emulated anyway (I know the demo is but that does not say anything, they could of coded the game so it detected it was emulated to just spout out the Disc Error instead of launching the game)

I am not saying this method does not work but for me it just stays on the first screen, being the Warning screen, not to be confused with the Read Error screen that would come after the Warning screen if there was a Disc Read Error

Out of interest and testing I did try a build a disc image directly on PC but that does give the Read Error but the above was done as you described, this was just for testing more than anything, I do believe the 3rd open session it partly why this works, a strange one indeed, maybe it will be further cracked so it can be images like any other dreamcast game, for now this is the only method known though

I can though create other self boot games using both the olde Echelon's method much like the one you describe but with a few minor differences and the to disc image directly methods, both including CDDA, so not that sure why this would fail.

I've burned 3 disk with this method (same pc, same burner, same settings, same files [even same "sturmwind.iso"]) and ONLY 3rd disk work. So if you getting "Read disk error" try to repeat process (even with other burner) and try to write as slow as possible (even 1x or 2x [original tutorial author's words] - my burner minimum write speed is 4x). And about emulation - I've tried to run it on NullDC, Chankast, Makaron - none of them works ("Read Disk Error").

That's the thing, I'm not getting any "Read Disk Error" it just does not get past that first Warning Screen, I know the Read Error comes after that if there is a read error, but not seen that on my Dreamcast

Wish I had known it had taken 3 attempts before hand I prolly would not of bothered and saved my last few CD-R for something worth while that I was sure would work, I did read through the other site though and could see that most the problems had been from users that just did not have a clue about this kind of building/burning, but I would hardly say I was new to thins though I tend not to so public about releasing my rips (I do have a couple here I done recently but most of what I have done was done a very long time ago and only for my use, mostly built from none self bootable CD rips, i.e. from CD rips from other groups, the more recent ones are from GDI source files though, so cleaner rips)

My burners min is 10x but I also know that the slowest possible speed is always the best so even if 10x works fine for me recommending 10x for a user with a burner min that is 4x will most like result in a fail.

Demul just goes to a black screen, this I know also as I said I done some quick tests

Maybe when I get some more CD-R's that will unfortunately be a very long time due to lack of funds to use on anything outside of bills and food, though just started a new job so it may be sooner than I think but that's only 10 hours a wk so more of a bill payer than a lets go buy stuff fund

Anyway grabbing the pre made iso + wav's it's just taking an age as I'm not a uploaded to... account holder, but not in a great rush I have no CD-R's left anyway.

If I do get this working though I will post the pre built iso plus wav's, I did try both the tmp.iso from the other site as well as building my own both resulting in it freezing at the Warning Screen (the one about Seizures ect..)

I have been following this thread for a while and pleasantly surprised to see a breakthrough. However, I am having some trouble deciphering the instructions for making a working cd of the game.

My assumption is that the contents of the zip files for download should be turned into a ISO image via some program and there are internet ISO tutorials on many Dreamcast sites for doing this. However, is there anything unique to this particular content in which to be aware or change in steps due to the unique nature of the content.

Some of the statements regarding "closed session" are confusing...

It also seems that some of the instructions offered by szczuru are not needed as they are preliminary steps to achieve what is already in the zip files.

Simply looking for clarification and tightening of the instructions so as to be less inscrutable.

    Thank you.

    mkisofs -l -C 0,249267 -o sturmwind.iso creates the iso for session 2

the wav's make up the first session

The instructions here are partial though there are parts missing

When I know for certain it works I will provide improved instructions, but that will have to wait for now.

I hate to interrupt the current conversation, but I owe everyone an explanation for my disappearance: an on-going health condition put me out of commission for a while. I was in the process of ripping Sturmwind (as I stated in my last update in this thread), but unfortunately I couldn't do anymore at the time.

@ szczuru and Pa0l0ne - I want to thank you guys for all the hard work you put into ripping Sturmwind for Dreamcast. I only browsed your posts, but I need to read through them to get caught up on what you did and how to burn a copy to a CD-R. I did see it mentioned that it can run on Dreamshell, so I may try that instead. We'll see...

On a different note: I purchased a copy of NG DEV Team's latest Dreamcast shooter, NEO XYX. Unless someone beats me to it, I'll upload a copy for everyone to enjoy.
