having problems with saints row 3 with a ps3 controller

I plug the ps3 controller into the pc and the pc recognizes it, however, the ds3 tool i am using doesnt pick it up, and it seems to want to connect to the internet which we dont have. is there any way i can make the game think its a 360 controller i am using? its just frustrating because i DONT and cant afford another type of controller for pc. so how can i configure it to work with the game? and i try doing the setup for the controller, it wont pick up the analog sticks.

You can use something like Joy2Keys that changes Joypad pressed into keyboard presses

Joy2keys is rather old I am sure there will be some updated software out there aswell but joy2keys is still very good, make sure you enable the extra POV/axis controls in it though

This will work with any HID joypad

If the above does not see any pads then maybe Xpadder will, I don't have a link for that one though and have never used it myself, but heard it does much the same as what joy2keys does, it may be easier to use aswell

I tend to test what I have set up in notepad to make sure it is working
