Default How to change/remove/mute background music in Grandia 3 (PS2) by editing the ISO?

Hi all, thanks a lot for your awesome work here!

I have this issue with a few PS2 games : They have no volume control fro the background music, and the music drives me insane!

Specifically, I'm playing Grandia 3 which I' enjoying quit a lot. However the repetitive battle and shop music is just too much for such a long game and I often have to turn the sound off when in combat or in a shop.

After 50 hours of play , it has become very irritating, and sometimes I can barely think straight when playing unless I turn the thing down or off.

There must be a way to get to the music files in the ISO and change them... the tracks are packed in a weird format though, unlike the cutscenes which are just standard movie files.

SO my question is how do I deal with those music files and then how do I repack the ISO?

I know it's possible since people make ISO repacks with original audio files, etc...

Assuming that you use PCSX2, what emulator version are you using? Also, check your SPU-2 plugin settings. I think you have timestretch and a low end PC (timestretch's ok at 75-80%, but not <=60%)

EDIT: Repacks aren't required, when downloading a game, it is expected to be on a console rather than an emulator in most (if not, all) cases for backup use

I just saw the reply, I have no problem with the emulation speed , I just wanted to get rid of the battle and shop music. Ifinished the game and would play it again if it weren't for those stupid tunes. The combat system is the only turn-based system I have liked . I really wish someone will copy it in a modern game, seeing as the Grandia developer is no longer with us.

    What file format are they?

If there are tools for that format it is doable but not all game files are editable without programming know how. most major hacks like translation for example are done with re-programming either by hand or they make there own tool sets, if a certain format has tool sets that have been shared then you are in luck
